How to Add or Remove Quick Access Toolbar Items in Windows 10 File Explorer
The Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) is a small, customizable toolbar that exposes a set of Commands that are specified by the application or selected by the user.
This tutorial will show you how to add or remove command items from the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in File Explorer for your account in Windows 10.

EXAMPLE: Quick Access Toolbar in File Explorer

OPTION ONE
To Add Command Items to Quick Access Toolbar in File Explorer
1 While in
File Explorer (Win+E), do
step 2,
step 3,
step 4, or
step 5 below for how you would like to add commands to QAT.
2 Right click or press and hold on a button (ex: Open Settings) in the Ribbon you want to add to QAT, and click/tap on
Add to Quick Access Toolbar. (see screenshot below)
OR
3 Click/tap on the
Customize Quick Access Toolbar menu arrow, and check the commands you want to add. (see screenshot below)
OR
4 Click/tap on
File, click/tap on the Open command prompt
menu arrow, right click or press and hold on either
Open command prompt or
Open command prompt as administrator for what you want to add, and click/tap on
Add to Quick Access Toolbar. (see screenshot below)
OR
5 Click/tap on
File, click/tap on the Open Windows PowerShell
menu arrow, right click or press and hold on either
Open Windows PowerShell or
Open Windows PowerShell as administrator for what you want to add, and click/tap on
Add to Quick Access Toolbar. (see screenshot below)
OPTION TWO
To Remove Command Items from Quick Access Toolbar in File Explorer
1 While in
File Explorer (Win+E), do
step 2 or
step 3 below for how you would like to remove commands from QAT.
2 Right click or press and hold on a command on the Quick Access Toolbar, and click/tap on
Remove from Quick Access Toolbar. (see screenshot below)
OR
3 Click/tap on the
Customize Quick Access Toolbar menu arrow, and uncheck the commands you want to remove. (see screenshot below)
