I mean I try not to save any files to the C: drive at all.
Hi, Ive recently bought an ASUS gaming laptop. ASUS advice was to immediately create a recovery drive using the standard method from within Windows 10. The laptop shipped with Windows 10 version 1909 but I still created the recovery drive straight away just to be on the safe side.
I am about to upgrade to the latest version, Feature Update 20H2 through Windows Update.
My question is..When Ive finished updating to version 20H2 am I supposed to create another recovery drive? If I do, will this create a recovery drive with the Windows 10 20H2 version on it?...or will it still be the factory shipped version 1909? Obviously if disaster ever strikes Id like to be able to recover and reinstall the latest Windows version if thats possible.
Ive always used the Media Creation Tool in the past and clean installed. However this ASUS laptop has very little in the way of Bloatware so I'll be keeping all the ASUS software installed so the Create Recovery Drive method makes more sense.
Hi Shawn..hope you're well
So..If I create a Recovery drive again after Ive updated from 1909 to 20H2 it will create a recovery drive with version 20H2 installation media? Thats the way Im hoping it works..if so I can create a new recovery drive with every 6 monthly feature update release and will always have the latest installation media..just as you would have when downloading the Media Creation Tool every 6 months if clean installing.
I posted here because I was asking this earlier on another thread and the feedback suggested that Creating Recovery Media again wouldnt change anything I would still get the same version that was shipped on the ASUS OEM factory image which in my case was version 1909.
Also Shawn I know Macrium Reflect is the go to backup software but in my case if disaster struck Id rather install again using a Recovery Drive. I back up all my documents regularly to 3 different USB flash drives that I rotate weekly. I dont have a lot of software to reinstall so it wouldnt be a big job in my case
If you check the Back up system files to the recovery drive box, it should create a recovery drive for the current version and build.
If disaster should strike, you would be better off with a system image created by Macrium Reflect instead. It will restore everything exactly to how it was when the system image was created.
Not sure that is gonna help. My post #17 in the Op's original thread Seeking clarity - Creating a Recovery Drive refers. Let the OP @sportsfan148 check on it. Let him compare the contents of the recovery drive made with 1909 and then 20H2 and check whether it really points to 20H2.
