Yep, i have to get this resolved quickly because next week i'm getting a new computer that has USB 3.0 ports which will enhance putting that SSD drive into it. Thanks once more, Dave PS, i'll keep you posted on my progress.

i'll try both items you suggested. thank you.

last week i tried to clone (using Macrium) my HHD drive to a new SSD drive. After the clone, the SSD drive wouldn't boot. And now neither will the HDD (the one i'm having the problem with). I was on another thread about swapping my HHD drive for an SSD drive to make my computer faster. So, that's where i'm at. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Earlier today, I created a Macrium Rescue flash drive but can't even get into the BIOS to change boot order. Hope that helps.

I tried to use the "Recovery Drive" once again and although i was able to activate the keyboard, i got an error message Error code: 0xc000000e
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.
    Press Enter to try again
    Press F8 for Startup
When I press Enter or F8, the screen flashes and nothing ever happens.
i'm so frustrated that finally i gave it up! So, i decided to do as you suggested and create a CD to re-install Win 10 x64 on my computer. Hopefully, i won't lose any of my programs and/or files. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thank you for your patience.

If you re-install Windows 10 by doing a clean install, you will lose everything.

That's just what i don't want to happen! What kind of install do i have to do? i just want the OS re-installed so i don't lose my files, programs etc. I saw a message under setup that said "Custom Install - install windows only (advanced). is this the option i should use?

Correct, a repair install will allow you to keep everything, but it can only be done from withing Windows and not at boot.

But if i can't get the computer to boot, how can i do an in place upgrade? Can it be done from the Win 10 install CD?

I have tried these steps, but I cannot continue past this point:

Create Recovery Drive in Windows 10-usb_recovery_attempt.png

"Next" is grayed out. I tried deleting every file off this USB drive and retrying the steps. That did not work.

    Hello tollbooth,

As a test, format the USB flash drive with FAT32 to see if you are able to use it afterwards.

Is the USB flash drive at least 32 GB in size?

I tried this. I am still unable to use my drive as a backup. I have done it before with this USB, so I know there's a way.

    Yes, it is 32 GB.
