I am a bit confused!
In the initial post it says . . .
Fast startup requires that hibernate be enabled. If you only want to use fast startup and don't plan on using hibernate, then you can specify the hiberfile type as reduced to significantly reduce the size of the hiberfile [C:\hiberfil.sys] to about half of its full size.
I am setting up a Shut Down Context Menu and my question concerns the Sleep part of this.
If I run powercfg /h /type reduced, which of the commands below do I use in the Shut Down Context Menu to put the computer to Sleep rather than putting the computer into Hibernation and still have Fast Startup please!
Code:rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep . . . or . . . rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
Thanks in advance.
Hello @Paul Black,
You would still want to use the hibernate command to have a hiberfile created used by Fast Startup, but you can specify the hiberfile as reduced to reduce its size if you don't want a full blown hibernate.
shutdown /h /f
Hibernate Computer in Windows 10
Hello @Brink,
So basically then, I run powercfg /h /type reduced [cmd prompt] first, and then in the Shut Down Context Menu for the command I put @="shutdown.exe -h -f -t 00"
So will this put the computer to Sleep with Fast Startup still enabled, and the reduced Hibernation file?
Neither of the command are needed then?
Code:rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendStateSleep ...or... rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState0,1,0
Thanks in advance.
@Paul Black,
You would want to use theshutdown -h -f
command without the "-t 00" switch.
Technically, it's still hibernate, but is basically the same as sleep when using reduced mode.
This is only slightly off topic but it is related to what was discussed previously here!
Because I am using Fast Startup with the Reduced Hiberfile, when I Shutdown, instead of using the shortcut Shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00, should I be using the shortcut Shutdown.exe -s -hybrid -f -t 00?
I obviously have my own Shutdown menu that I use!
Thanks in advance.
