This option remove starting from Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, version 1709. This option is available with Windows 10, version 1703 (also known as the Creators Update), far as i can remember this reset option was always available in Windows Recovery Environment. Below screenshot shows Recovery Environment options for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

    Hey Brink or anyone,

I am really considering this option to reset my new Laptop PC and select "fully clean drive" and reinstall it with a fresh copy for no bloatware etc.

How comparable is the fully clean drive option compared to say like Dban or other 3rd party secure erase software?

Also, if I decide to do the normal reset without selecting the "fully clean drive option" since my new laptop is from HP they have software installed like McAfee, which I don't use, will the reset reinstall that or basically which specific apps can you give some examples of that would be reinstalled. I just don't want the bloatware to be reinstalled.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the help. I hope everyone is having a great day so far.

    Hey Jeff,

Resetting Windows 10 will not do a secure erase unless you select the "Fully clean the drive" option, but does delete everything to effectively be like a clean install.

    Hey Shawn,

Thank you for your time and help as always! The bottom line with this is it would be better if you were for example to give away a computer then it would be better to use a software like Dban?

    It depends.

If you had sensitive information on the computer, you may want to use something like DBAN to secure erase the computer, and then clean install Windows 10.

One more thing here I believe the delete partition on via the Windows 10 clean install vs "fully clean drive", which one would be the best option in terms of wiping and time?

Only "Fully clean the drive" will do a secure erase.

    Excellent! Understanding now.

Now, my Bios Mode is UEFI. If I were to go with the delete the partition method in clean install, I would follow the step 13 part of the tutorial of installing windows 10 with UEFI, correct? If so, first, I would like to keep the Recovery Partition that was made by HP. In #2 of tutorial it says to delete all, can I still leave that recovery partition alone and keep it?
