this is great info but I have questions:
#1 how do you get to the "advanced start"page at reboot? I don't see any steps fpr that. #2 it talks about a windows recovery disk. Since mine was an automatic upgrade to windows 10 there is not a disk to insert and about the USB recovery how would I get that? Maybe it would just be better to delete windows to and go back to windows 8? This whole mess is just really frustrating for non- techie people. #3 my start up window icon doesn't work at all since windows 10 deleted it it so it took me 15 minutes to try and find this "recovery" step since settings isn't an available option on my default list(in case others are having same issue) is there an easier way to find it?. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    You're good to go.

When you upgraded to the free Windows 10 from your activated 8.1, it registered your PC with the Windows 10 activation. You don't key a key, but Windows 10 will activate whenever installed on that PC now. :)

Hello Kat, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Q1) The tutorial link in step 1 of OPTION ONE can help show you how to.

Q2) You could create a recovery drive or Windows 10 USB to use.

    (recommended) https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html

Q3) It would be better to create a new thread in the forum for that issue instead since it's not related to this tutorial.

I did the reset (Option 2), but my installation process seems to have some kind of issue. It sticks at 67% at 'configuring settings' for a while, but then it goes up to 95%. At this point it restarts and goes right back to 67%...rinse, repeat. I've left it on for a number of hours (overnight, also left it on all day while at work), yet nothing seems to change. I've tried powering the machine down and turning it back on, but it goes right to the same screen. Is there a way to fix this?

Hello BusterCannon, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm afraid that you may be looking at needing to do a clean install if you don't have a system image you can restore.

    Hello,
I became a member on this site because I had a question. I have been using Windows 10 for some time but was wondering how many times a clean reset can be performed (Reset with deletion of files) - without installation media (if allowed) before Microsoft will flag you as a problem. In other words, can I reset Windows 10 an unlimited number of times without an issue or will Microsoft flag me for OS abuse after a certain amount of resets. Thank you for your help.
    Sincerely,
    David B.

Hello David, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

There's no limit on how many times you can do a reset of Windows 10 on a PC. The activation is registered for that PC, so it's not going to trip any red flags.

Thank you for the prompt response

    Brink,
Thank you for the prompt response. I had 2 other questions that came from your answer:
    1. The Dell I am using is a dell shipped computer with Dell software installed from the factory. If I factory reset this would all the Dell software come back as well.
    2. I have another computer that was upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. It has been more than 30 days since the upgrade so I believe there is no way to return to Windows 7. If I reset that computer would it reset to a fresh version of Windows 10 or to its original Windows 7 operating system. If it resets to Windows 10 will it include all the necessary drivers to work with that machine?
Thank you so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    David B.

    You're welcome David. :)

Q1) Yes, it would be a factory reset with all the Dell software. Luckily, you can uninstall the software though.

Q2) It'll reset to Windows 10. Some drivers may get uninstalled as well, so it would be best to have them downloaded and ready to install afterwards as needed.

    Hey Brink (Shawn?)!

First let me say that I just read my way through this whole thread, you're a wizard and a gentleman. So here's my issue. I have a 7 to 10 laptop. I upgraded recently, (it never prompted me, I just had to go to the website?) and I want to do the reset this pc in order to give it a clean non-upgraded version of windows. When I click on it, I get below message. I've tired resetting it (the laptop, normal reset that is) and making sure my user account setting were not at maximum. Any ideas?Reset Windows 10-untitled.jpg
