I did not enable Cortana at the setup as I do not want to use it-I do not need or want a personal assistant. I also do not use Dragon Assistant which is hooked up with Dragon software on the computer and totally updated with Windows 10.

What I want to know is can Cortana be uninstalled and taken totally out of your computer-I do not want it nor do I trust it. (Without harming the computer)

Carol ... You beat me ...
Too bad we can't really uninstall it ...
But if we nag long enough ...MS might give US the option in next SR1 ..

One guy posted a Cortana removal scenario that involved deleting the entire Folder where Cortana lives.
That will not only delete Cortana, but also disable the Start Button and Search. Not good!

So I looked for a way to stop the Cortana DLL file from loading into RAM memory.
You can see it, in task-manager, and you can trace where it lives.
I simply changed the name of "Cortana.Core.dll" to "Cortana.Core.ddd" so it won't load into ram on boot-up.
Then I still have the Start button and all it's functions, and Search.

I'm pretty sure that fix could be put into a batch file or VBScript, but I've just not done that yet.
Maybe someone better at scripting than I am will do that. Hint! Hint!
You may have to 'Take Ownership' of that DLL file before you can re-name it.*

    * I like the idea of just renaming the DLL file instead of totally deleting it. That leaves the possibility of
re-enabling Cortana at some later date, if needed.

    Cheers mates!

PS: Upgrading to Win-10 will shut OFF System Restore, so if you normally have that Windows feature turned ON,
you'll have to turn it ON again after the upgrade.

Probably to turn off the previous installed Windows version's VSS and clear the old restore points so there will be no conflict between new and old OS.(just an educated guess)

Try settings > Privacy > Speech, Typing & Inking and click "Get to Know Me". That should work.

Have you tried turning off Cortana, then turning Cortana back on?
