Is it a share file that needs to be set to share with you?

File Sharing - in Windows 8

Is this file on an encrypted location that needs to be decrypted first?

I guess it is the case. The folder originally created in another pc, and I don't know how to decrypt it, and how to remove the encryption on that machine, as I don't want such a sort of problem in future.

It's very kind of you to give me prompt replies, Brink. I greatly appreciate your helps.

It will depend on what you used to encrypt it with, and if you have the encryption recovery key to unlock it with. If not, then you may be out of luck decrypting it.

It may be best to use a FAT32 formatted USB to copy the files on from the original PC. This way permissions will not carry over with them on the USB, and will allow you to copy them from the USB to any computer.

Hi Shaun, I've tried this program of yours but it doesnt work, neither does the 1st version or the version with a 'Press key to continue' Pause in it. It doesnt matter how many times I 'take ownership' of something, it just keeps saying:
"You need ownershippermission from (Insert my Laptop name + Account Name) To Change this File"

I've Also Tried turning on the Administrator account, but that account just gives me acces to some more files, still not all of them.

    Any Idea's that could help?

Hello Michael, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Were you signed in to an administrator account when you used the "Take Ownership" context menu?

Is this a shared file you are trying to take ownership of? If so, "Take Ownership" will not work on shared files.
