Ah, that would be why then. Avast will be protecting those folders from anything accessing or modifying them.

Using their utility should work though.
    Brink:
The odd thing is that I went to the start folder to make sure Avast wouldn't run at the next startup. Even so, it somehow had its fingers in the pie and wouldn't let me delete their folders.

It's normal for AV programs to protect their files like that for security reasons. This is to help make sure that malware can't do anything to it.

I understand but since I verified AVAST is not running through the Task Manager, who is protecting it?

The files themselves are most likely hash protected. Nothing needs to be running to protect them.

"Hash protection" - I'll have to Google how that's done.
    Thanks!

    Hi Brink:
Here's another strange DOS message after running TAKE OWNERSHIP - what do you make of it?

ERROR: FILE OWNERSHIP CANNOT BE APPLIED ON INSECURE FILE SYSTEMS; THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR ACLs .

    Thnx,
    Dan
