Here's another strange DOS message after running TAKE OWNERSHIP - what do you make of it?

ERROR: FILE OWNERSHIP CANNOT BE APPLIED ON INSECURE FILE SYSTEMS; THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR ACLs .

    Thnx,

Most likely the drive you are using is not formatted NTFS. May be formatted FAT32 or FAT or exFAT. Common with SD micro cards and thumb drives. Only NTFS is a secure file system. If you right click that drive or any files in it, you will not see the Security Tab. I just tried it using a FAT32 formatted thumb drive and my results were:

That must it since the folder I was trying to take ownership of was on a thumb drive.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
this doesnt work on systems with languages other than english because this command doesnt work:
    Code:
    takeown /f "Folder" /r /d y
    Because y stands for yes.

On german systems y is not recognised. For this case the letter j is used, which stands for ja. I dont know if there is a workaround for this problem.

    Hello Eric,

Yes, that's correct. You would just need to change the "y" for "yes" to the first letter (ex: "j") for your language version of yes (ex: "ja").

    Hi,

A notification for new versions for all of your scripts and reg files would be a great thing
I'm using a ton of your scripts and regs for a batch loop. But checking all of them for new version is a hard job. I think I'm using 50 or so.

    Hello Eric @BSODHunter,

I usually do post in the tutorial thread when something has been updated unless it was something real minor that doesn't change what it does.

    Custom Take Ownership Reg files

If you would like to have a custom location(s) of your own to not have the context menu, then please feel free to post a request in this tutorial thread. I'll be happy to post back with a custom .reg file for it.

I would like a custom .reg file, to take ownership of the following files and folders. This will allow me to create scripts, to replace things removed every time Microsoft does a new feature upgrade (every six months). I have created medium versions of the following fonts so they will display darker on my 4K monitor with 140 DPI spacing. The Microsoft solution to light gray fonts is High Contrast Mode which in my opinion looks terrible.

First set folders, to take ownership of folder and contents.

    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-arial_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_5803fc87168579d6
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-calibri_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_d026b9a458eef265
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-consolas_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_4f6fdf6c0e7c6b3d
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-f..truetype-couriernew_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_bbc3d96816655cde
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-f..etype-timesnewroman_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_c2f0134f0281a960
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-f..ype-segoeui_regular_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_5a0b851100864a37

Second set of files to take ownership of.

    C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-arial_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_5803fc87168579d6.manifest
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-calibri_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_d026b9a458eef265.manifest
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-consolas_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_4f6fdf6c0e7c6b3d.manifest
    C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-f..truetype-couriernew_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.17134.1_none_bbc3d96816655cde.manifest

The other thing I would like to take ownership of in a script file is the following two registry key folders and their contents.

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\Shell\cmd
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd
