Yep, that's what caught my attention thinking it may be the issue. I'm glad you got it sorted now.

Hi, a solution for some of you, if it helps. I've managed to delete all the folders ( I wanted to delete windows.old on the C: drive ), but I had to grant admin rights to each smaller folder individually ( rather than the main outer folder ). I did change the attributes to apply to all subset folders before applying this reg key change, so I don't know why this happened. Note - you can take control of a group of small folders in one go, but it will ask permission for each one as they progress. The problem is that it often doesn't come up asking for permission for the next folder to be granted access, and all that happens is that the Dos screen seems to hang. However the icon flashes on the taskbar, which you need to select, and the pop up message will then ask for permission. Then delete as normal.

There is an option to clean-up any windows.old and other update/upgrade files in the Disk Cleanup option on all drives that means you do not need to manually change permissions (which will reduce file security in system areas if not re-applied correctly)

Yes I tried that and cleaned out all redundant files, but the folder ( windows.old ) did not show up for some reason.

The windows.old folder does not show directly but is removed by checking the Previous Windows Installations option (just to make things easy of course)

There are a few other installation remnants that can be classed as previous Installations, ESD files, installation temp files, that can also recover wasted space.

(I always try to avoid clearing any databases unless they are obviously corrupted (Thumbnail Cache ), as they can slow systems up whilst rebuilding ))

The trouble was that there wasn't a "previous windows installation" option to select.

No problem. The context menu text was in English, but here's a fully Italian version below for you.

The ownerships successfully changed, but I still can not open and copy the files.

Hello Kun, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Double check the permission settings for the file to see if you are allowed access.
