    Just to clarify:

Drag & Drop means always while pressing LEFT (!) mouse button (not RIGHT).

    Is this Correct?
    Correct.

The default can be overwritten by specifying a "DefaultDropEffect" Registry Key for a certain file type e.g.

    HKCR\videofile

    Correct?
    Not that I'm aware of.

On my machine I found some "DefaultDropEffect" Registry Keys in a different branch:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\cdafile

    What impact do they have?
Do they have a higher priority than default in HKCR\* ?
What you set in this tutorial will override.

Are the Registry Keys the same as for Windows 7?
It's the same setting in Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

Assume I installed an additional copy/move tool like TeraCopy, ExtremCopy, FastCopy
Are the "DefaultDropEffect" Registry Keys relevant for them too?
This will most likely not affect third party programs unless they use the same drag and drop as Windows.

Change order of items in right-click drag-drop menu?

    @Brink

Read this thread with great interest, and learned good things from it. A curiosity occurred to me while reading it: is there a way to re-order the items in the RIGHT-click drag-and-drop pop-up menu? I have long been in the habit of right-button dragging, and choosing from Copy here, Move here, Create shortcuts here [Why is "shortcuts" plural??], and Cancel. I almost always am moving files when I drag, and my left-click choice from the options sometimes misses the mark and triggers the Copy here choice. I just wondered whether I can make Move here bold and at the top, and Copy here second in the list. No big deal; just curious.

(I'm aware that the bolding changes, depending on where the dragging is to/from -- in accordance with your specs in #1 -- but the order never changes in that menu.)

    Hello Dan,

I'm not sure on changing the order of the context menus, but changing the default action to "Move" may help.

    Many thanks, Shawn. Will do.

Done. It doesn't change the order, but the Move to gets the bolding, and that's an improvement for me. Harder to miss the bolded entry.

    Gracias, as ever.

Another W10 two steps backwards. In 7 if you dragged from one folder to another on the same drive it would copy. Not sure why they changed it.
