Turn On or Off BitLocker for Operating System Drive in Windows 10

But i never had a windows 10 password set up. Basically when you turn on my laptop, everything is there. But do i need to do this or not?


I never bothered with the windows 10 password because its basically useless right since someone can take it out and put it into another hard drive? So basically all it does is save you some time right if a thief has your laptop and needs a bit of time to take out hard drive and put it in another computer?



If i do step 5 as you mentioned, do i even need a windows 10 password? I dont have one and never put one. But is this needed with bitlocker or this is unnecessary? Do you have a windows 10 password? Or you only have bitlocker?

So right now just follow step 5 correct? Do you suggest having a windows 10 password as well? So after you log into bitlocker with your password, you now on your windows 10 password screen and have to input another password? That seems way too much right?


Again i do not currently have a windows 10 password and never set one up. Do you recommend me do that first before i set up bitlocker with step 5? Or its unnecessary? I mean i dont want to remember 2 passwords for loggin in each time if just having the password for bitlocker is enough right?

I assume you use bitlocker right? Do you use have a windows 10 password as well? That guy said you need both to be secure.

I'm well aware the password for bitlocker is not related to the windows 10 password. Those are completely separate. I understand that.


I know an account password is not required to encrypt the driver with bitlocker. You could use a pin or a flash drive or those other methods correct? But what i want based on what i described in a password correct?


If i only want a password to sign into windows 10, i could do that to be more secure. But having that only is useless. Making sure i have bitlocker is encrypt is the most important part right?


That person mentioned the reason you want windows 10 password as well is say if your computer hibernates etc. So if you dont have a windows 10 password, someone could just do something to it correct? But if it has a windows 10 password and it hibernates, they cant use it since it requires a password? However, couldnt they still stick a usb stick malware though since even though its hibernating, its past the bitlocker encryption?



So right now just go with step 5 right? I can only do this for now? Then after i do it, i can just add a windows 10 password so that way, i log in computer, ask me for bitlocker password. Then it ask me for windows 10 passwod?

I think your getting the account password and BitLocker password confused. These are two separate things.

You could use step 5 to have a BitLocker password, but yes you could also select to use a PIN or USB for BitLocker instead.


The account password is the windows 10 password. The bitlocker password is its own password. Is that correct? I don't think im getting confused with this here.


So if i do not set up windows 10 password yet and only do step 5 with bitlocker, i will only have one password i need to remember correct? And it also will give me a recovery key in the process which i will save to a usb drive?
