    Hi Shawn,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. Would it be the case if a file leaves the pc it would be decrypted?
    2. And is there a posibillity that the boot sector can be encrypted with bitlocker?
In that case the disk would be unreadable without the key in another system but data is safe.

Can you shed some light on this?

    Kind regards,

    Martijn

    Martijn,

These would be questions better asked in a new thread of your own since they may get detailed and go off topic from this tutorial.

Hello Shawn mate now I have just asked this very question as part of another thread if zI choose to use Bitlocker on a dual boot drive does the whole drive get encrypted or just the partition with 10 on it? The other partition has got 7 on it I ask because this would be my travel laptop.

Another small query is how good is Bitlocker because one is always seeing ads for encrypting software and I was am interested to hear what you think about how it stacks up those other programs// I am sure it is probably as safe in if not safer than those other programs.

Lastly if the 7 was not able to be encrypted as part of the whole drive would there be any possibility of an aftermarket encryption program interfering with Bitlocker though again I am assuming because of different partitions this would not be an issue but I do like to check.

    Hello John, :)

BitLocker would only encrypt the drive letter (not whole disk) that Windows is installed on. You could encrypt both OS drives separately, or just one.

BitLocker offers pretty good protection. I would recommend to change the cipher strength from step 1 to 256 bit instead of the default 128 bit for even better protection.

If you encrypt with BitLocker, be sure to back up your BitLocker recovery key to a safe location. If you should ever need to recover these encrypted drives in the future, you will not be able to do so without the recovery key.

Thanks Shawn I think I will do my ravel laptop first because it is the only machine that goes anywhere though I will have to use a third party encryption for the 7 partition but same thing I guess:)

When you used the "new" route on the unallocated disk, it would have formatted the disk to remove BitLocker. Afterwards, you would have been able to do a clean install as usual.
First off, thank you so much for all this free information.

I've read a lot about bitlocker and I'd like to enable It on my current laptop ( MBR, BIOS, without TPM and w10 ltsb ) and my future laptop ( GPT, UEFI, TPM 2.0 and w10 ltsb )

I'm going to encrypt my OS partition and D

    I'm mainly concerned about:

How to format only my OS partition: I mean, If I have to format unexpectedly, how to do It? I read it's as usual but I've also read some people couldn't do it, such as the one on this thread ( Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 Partition 4. Bitlocker Drive Encryption is enabled on the selected partition. Suspend Bitlocker in the Control Panel then restart installation)

    Why couldn't he do it?

I think It's something to do with UEFI and TPM 2.0

How to access D after formatting OS: I think I shouldn't expect anything goes wrong , it should ask for the key and give you access as usual.

As far as I know, I shouldn't have any problems on my current laptop ( MBR without TPM), in other words I'll be able to format my OS partition as usual and then be able to access D encryted. But there's not much information about UEFI with TPM 2.0 which doesn't allow you to format as usual I think

Thank you so much in advance

Hello Lehdor, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If needed, you should be able to clean install (UEFI or Legacy BIOS) as usual. Even on a BitLocker encrypted drive.

You do want to keep the recovery key for each drive you encrypt with BitLocker in a safe place in case you should ever get locked out of the drive and need to recover it.

    Hi !

Thank you!! Yes, I read that you should be able to a clean installation as usual that's why I don't understand why he couldn't do it, as if he had his drive locked

It could have been from only wanting to clean install on a second partition on an encrypted disk instead of wiping the whole disk.
