    Hi Shawn,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. Would it be the case if a file leaves the pc it would be decrypted?
    2. And is there a posibillity that the boot sector can be encrypted with bitlocker?
In that case the disk would be unreadable without the key in another system but data is safe.

Can you shed some light on this?

    Kind regards,

    Martijn

    Martijn,

These would be questions better asked in a new thread of your own since they may get detailed and go off topic from this tutorial.

7 and 10 on various machines

Hello Shawn mate now I have just asked this very question as part of another thread if zI choose to use Bitlocker on a dual boot drive does the whole drive get encrypted or just the partition with 10 on it? The other partition has got 7 on it I ask because this would be my travel laptop.

Another small query is how good is Bitlocker because one is always seeing ads for encrypting software and I was am interested to hear what you think about how it stacks up those other programs// I am sure it is probably as safe in if not safer than those other programs.

Lastly if the 7 was not able to be encrypted as part of the whole drive would there be any possibility of an aftermarket encryption program interfering with Bitlocker though again I am assuming because of different partitions this would not be an issue but I do like to check.

    Hello John,

BitLocker would only encrypt the drive letter (not whole disk) that Windows is installed on. You could encrypt both OS drives separately, or just one.

BitLocker offers pretty good protection. I would recommend to change the cipher strength from step 1 to 256 bit instead of the default 128 bit for even better protection.

If you encrypt with BitLocker, be sure to back up your BitLocker recovery key to a safe location. If you should ever need to recover these encrypted drives in the future, you will not be able to do so without the recovery key.

Thanks Shawn I think I will do my ravel laptop first because it is the only machine that goes anywhere though I will have to use a third party encryption for the 7 partition but same thing I guess
