Create System Repair Disc in Windows 10

The "Recovery Partition" basically does the same as booting from a "System Repair Disc" for advanced startup options (WinRE). Both are not able to install Windows unlike installation media. Installation media include WinRE as well.

Usually it's not recommended to delete the Recovery Partition. I'm not familiar with using the Crucial Storage Executive program, so I don't know if shrinking the C drive or deleting the Recovery Partition will help for it. It would be best to create a new thread for that separate issue instead.

Stupid question: Why if this is for Windows 10, do you start with a backup and restore selection for Windows 7? ... Backup and Restore (Windows 7) icon.

It's not a stupid question at all. I started there since that's just where the Create a system repair disc link is located at in Windows 10.

The name Backup and Restore (Windows 7) refers to the "Windows Backup" feature from Windows 7 that was left in Windows 10 for backward support, The File History feature in Windows 10 is suppose to be its eventual replacement.

You're welcome. You can use a system repair disc to boot to advanced startup options used to help troubleshoot and recover your Windows 10.

Excellent ... thanks for the fast response. I already have a Windows 10 recovery drive but after fixing a friends Windows 7 with a recovery disk, I wondered if this is available for Windows 10. I also have a Windows 10 iso disk if needed.

BTW ... I had a heck of a time creating the drive ... tried a 4 GB, 8 GB 32 GB and eventually managed to get it created on 256 GB USB drive using the media creation tool. They all crapped out at the last minute from Windows 10 option, not being able to finish. Other people have had the same issue Cannot create recovery drive in Windows 10 - Microsoft Community

Personally, I find having a Windows 10 installation USB to be the most handy. It includes all of this (WinRE) and can be used to install Windows.

I have a new Acer laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. How can I make this system repair on a USB flashdrive? I don't get that option when trying to make a system repair disc.

The procedure would not let me create the disc. I get a notice the files needed were not found on this computer. It asks (only) for a disc with Win 10 so it can extract the files. I only have Win 10 on a flash drive and that is not an option.

However, the Win 10 install flash drive has the repair options, and a "repair disc" isn't needed except if booting from a flash drive (on a different computer) was not an option.

Hello @fireberd,

If you like, you could use a Windows 10 ISO to easily burn a Windows 10 installation DVD that could be used for this instead.
