You will not lose data with repair install. It only resets some settings/tweaks you may have made.

It takes (for me) about 15 minutes and you can of course make a backup before if you want.

Is there any chance that the upcoming Spring Update will work like a Repair ??

    Hello #LoverOfLove,

I'm not aware of an easier one-click option.

    any help please,

not sure if this belongs here, but was online when my gpu fan connector came loose (wasn't clipped in). the screen went black and that was it. my reboot button didn't work so did a hard shutdown. couldn't boot to login screen and did a restore to previous point.

looked in group policy and the turn off option is "not configured". then tried the down load provided in op to enable real time and rebooted. that did not work.

now windows defender id not available, neither is update i guess. when i try to update it fails on
Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.267.1906.0) - Error 0x80070643

when i try to turn on defender there is no button and in settings they are greyed out.

    Hello n00bhere, :)

Do you have a 3rd party AV program installed?

When you some 3rd party antivirus (AV) programs are installed, they may automatically turn off Windows Defender. In this case you will not be able to turn on Windows Defender again until the 3rd party AV program has been completely uninstalled if wanted.

have spybot anti-beacon and search & destroy. turned off everything in anti-beacon and never had a problem with search & destroy other than needing to restart defender after installation.

do i need to uninstall both?

Spybot could be causing Windows Defender to be disabled.

If you like, you could test by uninstalling Spybot, restart the computer, and then see if Windows Defender is enabled to be able to turn on real-time protection.
