You may need to do more. It would be best to have the security experts there give it a good look over.

None of this works, after removing Webroot, cleaning its registry crap left behind and resetting periodic scanning (Icon in tray) running the registry file and checking GPO it still will not enable. Security & Maintenance would not do anything.

    Hello anotherca, :)

No it does not start after reboot either. It can be set to scan periodic and that gets the icon. GPO, etc. does not work anything. When looking at the service its greyed out in Manual and just starts and stops. I can only start Windows Defender Network Inspection service but cannot change from manual either. I am the admin using MicrosoftAccount logon updated from a domain/workgroup logon I had before upgrading to 10 from 8.1 pro. I am also an insider and am at the latest fast build. Its like I am not an admin in this respect and the local GPO is ignored. The Laptop is on a workgroup. An earlier attempt was made to get it up, updated and a 30 hour scan ensued, corrected a JS/Nimda.J occurrences in Windows Live Email. It was rescanned again after a reboot using the service above I could start and it was clean.

At this point I want Defender running normally before even going back to Webroot - which has its own tech support started.

Everything so far is less than the instruction above at MS and no idea why I am not able to start service. I may have to try Safe mode to set services. I need to find out if all three need to run Auto or Manual first.

Taking a lot of days so far.

    regards..

Here's the default settings for the Windows Defender services to help.

Understood, cannot set these as an admin and the middle one gets me an icon and the ability to update and scan when started manually. Gonna try Safe Mode setting? GPO and registry ineffective. Windows Pro 10 Insider Build 1493.

    Thanks. Check in later..
