    Hello xbliss, :)

Did you download the .reg file from within the VM?

What is happening when you try to merge the .reg file? Any error messages?

Yes from within VM - Got 2 REGs, one for Metered, other for Disabling Automatic Updates
Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Error Message - Not with the other REG

Can we revert "change the owner" and "set permissions" if we decide to? or would there not be any need to?

How exactly does setting the connection to metered affect updates? Do we control what and when to update? Will the metered connection have any effect on anything else we're not aware of?

Hello Kol12, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Q1) There's no need to revert the owner or permissions, but you could change them back if you like.

Q2) Windows will not automatically download updates with a metered Internet connection. Setting your Internet connection to be metered is a workaround to effectively disable automatic updates.

Q3) Having a metered Internet connection will also affect anything else (ex: Store, OneDrive, etc...) that uses your Internet bandwidth. They will also no longer automatically use your bandwidth, but you can still manually use it with them.

I have tested it, but the problem is, that WU would not download updates, even if I wanted to, Defender's definitions updates will fail as well. I get 0% at all times. I use WUMT, so no problem, just wondering, if it is me or everyone.

Thanks, I will try it out. If anything goes wrong or doesn't work I can easily just restore the original reg file correct?

Correct, you can set it back to unmetered if you have issues as metered.

    Hi Brink,

In the case of the DefaultMediaCost folder, after changing the owner, do I simply just tick the allow full control tickbox for the new owner?
