    Hello jeef77, :)

You might see if the Kingston Format Utility may be able to format the USB for you. :)

I followed this procedure with my windows 10 installation usb. Disk part claimed success but I still cannot format it.

To clarify I wish to format it so I can install the latest version of windows on the usb using the media creation tool, so I don't have to install so many updates if I ever have to reinstall windows again.

If what I am attempting to do is simply not possible, by all means let me know.
Same happened to me but only because I hadn't removed the disk drive from the USB port. After I removed and then reinserted the drive , the procedure worked as it was intended.

Well, my apologies for not replying in 2016. I really haven't had the time to do this, and I'm retired. Relatives take up lots of my free time. I had more free time when I was living alone and working 40 hours a week.

Ah, I remember what happened... the USB external drive holder is for my EIDE older hdds. The company is no longer around that made the holder, it has a metal case. I've been trying to find time to connect it to a Windows 7 desktop I have. Maybe it has a driver. Or I could go out to my storage shed and locate my XP laptop... I'm sure the battery has depleted its storage, but I do have an adapter for the laptop. Its just finding the time to do it.

The brand is ADS Technologies. It is for USB 2.0

Hi guys, is it possible to have 1 disk with 2 partitions the one hidden (id 17) and the other volume partition for example g: and have different attributes? I want the hidden read only and the other normal. I am trying before hide the volume but changes affect both volumes, is any way to fix this?
    Some time later...
I fixed it, the solution was to write protect first partition and same time before reboot volume clear readonly to second partition even i hadn't write protect it. I checked before to hide the partition and was the one write protected and the other not.

UNLOCK USB FLASH DRIVE (LOCKED BY VIRUS)

    Hello!

Recently I had a customer with a locked USB Flash Drive. I could not format, wipe the partition or do anything. I got a message that the disk has Write Protection or similar. I even tried with WinPE and Linux Live CD, nothing! I assume some virus messed with some flags on the device and locked it. Is there any utility that can fix this? I have already tried the Diskpart and the Regedit methods, they didn't work.

    Thank you in advance

    Hello @spapakons,

Have you also tried something like EaseUS Partition Master or AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard to format the USB drive?

If that fails, then you could see if Unlocker on the USB drive may help.

When you get these issues, it usually means the drive is fubared.
