Let's change the State DWORD value for the "S-1-5-21...1104" SID key to 0 (zero), and sign out or restart computer to see if the "Dad" account may be available afterwards.

Does the "C:\Users\Dad" folder look like it's intact with all of its personal folders (Music, Documents, etc...) and files?
Just tried something ' on a whim' I backed up, then deleted the registry entry after Dad......rebooted now ctrl alt del switch users offers both users, plus I can now sign in ok.....
any idea why this should be ?
and yes the Dad user folder looks complete
Great news.
It appears the profile for the "Dad" account may have been corrupted. Deleting the SID key would have caused a new profile to be created for it.
Does the new SID key for the "Dad" account still show the correct path for its "C:\Users\Dad" folder?
I didn't delete the Dad profile key....I deleted the one after it......which only had a few lines and no name......maybe left over from rddrw......
Ah, ok. Yeah, it was most likely a left over SID key from a corrupted profile or deleted account that didn't get deleted somehow.
Thanks for all the help, weird how things work out .....
just tried doing a macrium backup, while it's all working LOL but got error MFT is corrupt......
is this easy easy to fix ? Doing scandsk now
You're most welcome mate. :)
That would for the "Master File Table" (MFT), but you should to create a new thread in the forum to see what we can do to help so this tutorial can stay on topic.
Agreed, luckily chkdsk fixed it and macrium now backing up ok........I could not be in a job repairing computers, it's enough of a headache as a hobby LOL
