Hello Shawn now I have been keeping my passwords on Google Keep for a long time now rather than trying to keep having to writing them down in a book. In your opinion do you think doing what I do is safe enough? I only ask because I am constantly changing passwords and am not that organised enough to keep a book where I can find it as I have machine in different rooms?
    Hello John,

I'd say as long you have them written down on paper or digitally, it'll be a fine backup.

    Drat it

What happened was that when the display woke up from moving the mouse, it demanded a login using my MS password!
Together with an admonitory note telling me I should really have a PIN. (It didn't do that before the crash and reinstall.)

    Now what?

Is it something to do with this screenshot?
Now its even worse! One step forward and ten back.
Yesterday as long as I didn't get to the time when the display/screen switched off waking it up with the mouse or switching off then it restarted without needing a password.
This morning when I switched on, no password needed. But when I moved the mouse after the screensaver came on I got the sign in screen again, but even worse! It demanded that I created a PIN and wouldn't accept Cancel! I had to resort to ctrl.alt.del to switch off and then it restarted without any fuss. What a horrible OS Win 10 is turning out to be.

To answer Brink message 218 - yes it is still turned off.

Checking yesterdays post I see that my screenshots attachments never appeared. I will try again to add them here. There is one for power settings which shows an extra one that has appeared called Acer! And another one that shows a strange set of settings for Lock Screen whatever that is.Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup-power.jpgSign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup-lock.jpg

    To summarise.
If the PC is switched off (pull the plug!) then switching on it boots and does not demand a password or PIN - the way I want it.
If the PC goes into sleep or screensaver then it will won't wake up to running programmes as I left it, unless I create a PIN, or restart it.
It would be nice to have a list of basic settings as MS recommends they should be, then I can start over!

Since I wrote 5 hours ago I have been trying a few things.
First, when I again restarted to get out of "sleep" I got a new message about setting up your computer! Did that long ago of course. But, what the hell, I tried it again. At the page about making a PIN I said no, and the rest also left by saying no thanks.
Second, I then tried Troubleshooting on Power. It said I was using the wrong plan and recommended letting it set one for me. After it did that I rechecked in Settings/Power and the Acer plan was no longer selected and it is now set Balanced (Recommended) with 10 minutes on the Display box and 30 on Sleep box.
And, the "require sign-in when Windows wakes from sleep" is back ON again.

Now I wait with bated breath to see what new shocks it comes up with!

Since you mention screensaver, double check to make sure On resume, display logon screen is unchecked in your screen saver settings below.

You were right. That box was checked! How many thousand more options are set wrongly on Win 10?
    Unchecked now. Cross fingers!

Walked away and left it. Came back to a dark screen. Tapped space. "you should create a PIN" message. C+A+D and restarted with password. Screamed, quietly.
Now I have to take my two foster kittens to be sterilised before they get new homes.

Go ahead and create a PIN for your account to stop that message, and see if you are still prompted to sign in.
