    @Brink, it has been drawn to my attention by @David oap that the Netplwiz check box for 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer' is missing in a clean install of 2004, making Option One unavailable. I have confirmed this in a clean install of 19041.264 using media created by the MCT.

    It does however exist in a machine that was upgraded from 1909 to 2004.

    Hello @Bree,

    Double check to see if you turned on Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts (aka: passwordless sign-in). If so, you will not see the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box.

    That option does not appear, there are no Microsoft accounts on these machines. All accounts are local accounts, but the equivalent 'Require Sign-in' for a local account with a password is missing in the clean install, whether or not a Hello PIN is set, but exists in the upgrade.

    @Bree,

    I cleaned installed a Windows 10 Pro v2004 on a VM with a password protected local account to see if anything may have changed, but I still have the checkbox in netplwiz.

    I'm not seeing the Require Sign-in setting either though, but that looks like it may be from the VM not supporting Sleep.

    Hmm, odd. If the computer is joined to domain, or possibly linked to an exchange email, it would also remove the check box in netplwiz.

    Ah yes, that makes sense. My clean installs (I have two, one Pro the other Home) are both VMs. Both were installed from an ISO made by the MCT. Nether have the check box in netplwiz. My upgrade is System One in my specs, upgraded by Windows Update, and that does have the checkbox.

    As I said, my clean install does not display that setting. I have now looked in the registry on both the upgrade to 2004 and the clean install of 2004.

    My upgraded machine does not have the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess.

    My clean install has the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device key and DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion is set to 2 (which means ON according to the tutorial). Setting it to 0 restores the checkbox in Netplwiz.

    So my problem (and @David oap's) is that a) my clean install defaults to 'ON' for that setting, and b) I do not get the switch to turn it off in Accounts > Sign-in options.

    It may (or may not) be relevant that we are installing different language edition. Yours would be en-us while mine is en-gb.

    @Bree,

    It is odd you don't have the check box available in netplwiz.

    I don't think the default language would make any difference for this setting.

    It'll be interesting to hear how many others are seeing this as well, and not joined to a domain or has Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts turned on (if available).

    It's not really Netplwiz's fault. The root cause is that a clean install turns on Require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts by default.

    I don't think the default language would make any difference for this setting.

    I mentioned it as it's the only difference I can think of between your clean install and mine. There have occasionally been bugs specific to media for one language that were not present in the US media.

    It does make you wonder why it was turned on by default.

    Hi all,

    I can fully confirmed that the issue showed up on my win10 x64 - 19041.264 (en-us) after clean install as well.

    Enable or Disable Passwordless Sign-in for Microsoft Accounts

    By default in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PasswordLess\Device

    DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion key's value was set to 2 and unable to see Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer after running netplwiz or control userpasswords2.

    When changed to the key's value to 0, system shows Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer 😊

    I am glad this was already brought up already as I noticed this issue as well.
