Hello there, download and tried to run the VB script, but Bitdefender complains:

VBScript tried to load a malicious resource detected as Amsi.Edge.8.49F2493A and was blocked. Your device is safe.

Have used on corporate machine with Trend AV and passed :)

    What to do?
It's definitely a false positive, but my test results are different...

I downloaded and installed BitDefender Free. After installing, I updated its definitions (right-click BitDefender icon in System tray and select Update Now). I then proceeded to test WinSetView.

WinSetView downloaded and launched without any issue (i.e. no virus detected). Upon clicking Submit in WinSetView, BitDefender blocked the execution of the PowerShell script. This was not a virus detection, but a general blocking of anything that may be malicious. In BitDefender, this is the "Advanced Threat Defense" feature. It must be turned OFF so that the script will be allowed to run or maybe a PowerShell exception can be set up. Not sure if that's possible in the free version.

So, in my tests, there was no virus detected, but BitDefender did block execution of the PowerShell script until "Advanced Threat Defense" was turned off.

But you're seeing something different. Since it's an HTA, I'm a bit confused about the statement "tried to run the VB script". The HTA contains VBScript code (a lot of it) so I assume you meant that you launched the HTA and then saw the BitDefender message. Can you clarify?

Obviously one solution is to uninstall or disable BitDefender. Personally, I was pretty turned off by BitDefender when I tested the free version. Like many on this forum, I recommend going with the built in Windows Defender. Other than that, I'd need more details to look further. What exact BitDefender product are you running? Are the definitions up to date?

Thank you for the quick reply, appreciated.

The Bitdefender version is "Bitdefender Total Security" the paid subscrition service for 5 devices including Android.
Switched off the Advanced Threat defence, and still blocked the script. Then switched off the Anti virus completely, now the Power shell script ran ok, but something else in the AV system quarantined.

Set Default Folder View for all Folders in Windows 10-2022-09-30_08-53-29.jpg

These applications were quarantined: conhost.exe, reg.exe. Eventually switched off everything with Bitdefender and the Powershell script worked. Yet to restart, the main Explorer windows show preferred LIST view.
Excel stubbonly resists showing details, but after running the script, switched to Content view.
Will restart and take it from there.

I downloaded the trial version of Bitdefender Total Pain in the Arse Security (the file was bitdefender_tsecurity.exe) but after installing, I found that it was the same BitDefender Free that I previously tested and got exactly the same results I described in my previous message.

I can't explain what you're seeing and I can't submit a false positive report to BitDefender if I can't replicate the issue. And I really don't want to buy BitDefender just to test this.

Regarding the views that are not correct... is that on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 machine?

    To summarise:
Windows 10 File Explorer, show lists everywhere, that's the global setup, and in each part of the hta, also shown as lists - ACE!
Word and Excel 365 Save as windows are default as tiles, used to be details.

As far as Bitdefender behaviour is concerned, I could raise a case as a false positive with them to clear the PowerShell activity, but they may not listen, can't control that.

I'll take a look at Office 365 and get back to you on that.

If you're still seeing a detection of Amsi.Edge.8.49F2493A, that should definitely be reported as a false positive. And they shouldn't be blocking PowerShell if Advanced Threat Defense is turned off, so I think it's worth reporting.

I tested with Word and Excel 365 and the File Open/Save dialogs worked as expected.

Are you seeing Tiles in the Open/Save dialog in ALL folders, or just "This PC"?

If the former, the only way I can get that behavior is to explicitly set File Open/Save dialogs to Tiles in the WinSetView option page. If the latter, then that's expected behavior, unless you set a specific view for "This PC" in the WinSetView options page or set a specific view for all File Open/Save dialogs in the WinSetView options page.

Note: If you have Global set to "List" and also checked "Use General Items view for connected devices", then "This PC" will also display as List when browsing, but will still be Tiles in Open/Save dialogs. That's not a bug. It's just how File Explorer works in regards to folders that share the General Items GUID, such as "This PC".

If you like, you can email me your win10.ini file and then I can test with exactly the same settings you're using. My email can be found in the WinSetView manual.

I have surpassed the Folder View Settings Cache Memory Size of 5,000. Rather than use a REG File to set it to 20,000 . . .

    Code:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20

Is there a way that I can start over and set ALL folders AND ALL sub-folders for drives C: D: & I: to Details View with ONLY Name, Date Modified, Type, and Size in that order and have it Size ALL Columns to Fit ?

Do I need to run a Script first like this one ?:

    Code:

    DELETE the Registry Keys:

    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU" /f

On my 64-bit System I will also need to DELETE the Registry Keys:

    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags" /f
    REG DELETE "HKCU\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU" /f

    . . . and this one ?:

    Code:

    CREATE the Registry Keys:

    REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU"
    REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags"

On my 64-bit System I will also need to CREATE the Registry Keys:

    REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags"
    REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Wow6432Node\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU"

I found this in one of my Scripts [ I am NOT sure if it is a valid entry ] but unfortunately I did NOT make a note where I got it from. I think it might have been @TairikuOkami:

    Code:

    REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell" /v "FolderType" /t REG_SZ /d "NotSpecified" /f

    Thanks.

That's exactly what WinSetView is for. No need to edit the registry yourself. Let it do the work. Just run it and set your preferred default views.

And it has nothing to do with the drives. It sets the default views for each folder TYPE (you can make them all the same if you like) and clears the BagMRU/Bags keys.

You cannot set Size ALL Columns to Fit as a default. That's an Explorer limitation.
