    Hi Brink,

    I am confused.

First of all I disabled a long time ago Recent List and Jumplist FEATURE.
But that means that only that recent lists and Jumplist are NOT shown.
It doesn't mean that the recent file link are not saved.
From my point of view these recent links are currently stored but not used by the Recent+Jumplist feature.

    These are different things.

I don't want that other people could track down and investigate which files I have used and touched recently.
They should not be created AND NOT be shown!

Secondly I you talked about "used for other items other than recent items and frequent places."
Hmm, all these links are stored in the folders you mentioned in your first posting.

"....our recent items and frequent places are stored in the folder locations below.

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations

So are these folders for Recent and Jumplists or not?

Assume they are NOT for Recent and Jumplists: For which feature/function are they otherwise?

How can I disable the creation of them?
They should be empty ....forever(!) At least after shutdown
One example is items pinned to Quick Access and pinned to Jump Lists are also stored to the %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder.

Turning off Recent Items and Frequent Places using an option in this tutorial will only prevent them from being stored, and not the above.

    Ok. Thank you

And how do I turn off the storing of the items you just mentioned?

Luckily, not pinning anything to Quick Access or to a Jump List will prevent those.

I observed it now for a while.
Although I NEVER intensionally pinned something to Quick Access nor JumpList the folders are filled up with dozends of shortcuts.

    Where do they come from?

is there a way to disable "Quick Access" and "Jump List" feature really completely so that users cannot pin something even accidentally?

You should be able to use the policy in option 3 or 4 to disable them for all users.

Ok, according to your suggestion I applied option 3 AND option 4.
And I verfied that the values are succesfully stored in registry.

Then I empty all 3 folders manually and re-started Window 10

Now, after a week of working I re-visited the 3 folders.

    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations

Only the first was still empty.

The two latter contain approx a dozend new entries/files/shortcuts.

I cannot figure out which operation or program created the entries. The files are named similar to

    441fba5b6e8e69a3.customDestinations-ms

    and contain only binary data.

So options 3 and 4 are NOT sufficient to prevent creation of shortcuts in the mentioned directories.

    Any other suggestions?

I cannot believe that it is so difficult to stop recent shortcuts features.
This is a serious privacy issue.

Is there any way to get the explorer shortcut in the taskbar to show "Recent Items" instead of "Frequent Places"?
So basically the last used files instead of folders.
