The only problem remaining is opening apps from the search bar, they run ok from windows explorer as administrator.....must be a reason
Does it do the same if opened from All Apps in the Start menu?

I forget how (Brink probably has a Tutorial) You can put an All apps folder on your desk top and get it as admin

Thanks, defo an idea, but, I can edit the .exe of each app to always run as admin, using the properties / advanced in each file....so could simply do this with my main apps that are importance, can do with commands also e.g. CMD.exe....so unless Brink can find a fix, think I will do this, not ideal, but at least it works.

curious how I can actually run the .exe’s from Windows explorer by right click run as admin, but not in the start or search menus....there must be a way ‘ for those who understand the inner workings of such things’ to repair this.

    thanks

Thank you, as I can set individual .EXE’s to run as admin, that would be a lot easier....just hope Brink or someone else offers a solution, maybe a registry fix

    thanks for the idea

Short of a clean install of Windows 10, here are some more things to test and try to see if it may help fix this for you since you already tried restoring the default "Run as administrator" registry entries and a repair install:

    1) Perform a full scan of your system with an AV program (ex: MalwareBytes (free version) and Microsoft Defender) to help make sure your system is clean.

    2) Does "Run as administrator" work while signed in to a different administrator account on the computer?

    3) Perform a clean boot in Windows 10 to see if "Run as administrator" works while troubleshooting to see if some software conflict may be a cause.

Done this it found 50 infections now showing zero
    2) Does "Run as administrator" work while signed in to a different administrator account on the computer?
    No same problem exists
    3) Perform a clean boot in Windows 10 to see if "Run as administrator" works while troubleshooting to see if some software conflict may be a cause.
did this, it’s running a clean boot

reallly hoped it could be fixed as the issue is specific to start programs and search bar...

I hate to say this, but considering it found 50 infections, I would recommend a clean install of Windows 10, and scan your system again afterwards to make sure its clean.

I did a clean, then double checked then did a repair upgrade, which it wouldn’t do before, checked again and zero infections.....

looks like I have to live with the run as admin not working......as really don’t want to do a clean install.....being a 24/7 carer I don’t have the time to install all my apps, kept too busy for that,

    thanks
