Thank you @Michael. I have added a note for this in the tutorial.

how about a .reg or .bat file to restore custom folder view setting after a clean install? after i reinstall windows the first thing i do is reassign my secondary drives/partitions there previous drive letters. in doing this i don't have to change various setting in my backup for various programs like my browsers, winstep, etc.... but where various view settings are concerned it can be weeks before i reset each and every folder. i would rather have click and done on the various view settings so i can open a folder and just do what i open that folder for instead of opening the folder, adjusting the view, and then doing what i opened the folder for. thanks

    Hello @ChaChaLaBoom, :)

If you like, you could use the method in the tutorial below to backup and restore your folder view settings.

Here's another way to change the desktop layout, for any AutoIt users:
    Code:
    #include <GUIListView.au3>
    _GUICtrlListView_SetView(ControlGetHandle('', 'FolderView', 'SysListView321'), 2)
Put that in an .au3 file in your Startup folder, and it will switch to List view at login.

You can change the last 2 to a 1 for Details view, or 4 for Tiles.

    Hello, Brink!
I am a brand new forum-user stuck in a conundrum regarding the "folder-views", more specifically, the view known as "List". After the recent Features Update (which was released this year around in December(?)), upon updating my OS I found that my List layout had changed dramatically, with giant blocks of empty space being extended in-between these vertical rows of miscellaneous files. This is of great concern with me because it nullifies the one purpose I found with the List-view in that it was compact and I did not have trouble finding any files that way. You may refer to the equal question i had posted on the Microsoft Community Forums, where, thus far, I have not been able to find a solution to this problem:

Alternatively I may upload the exhibits here in case of any issues with the hyperlink:

    This view...

    now looks like this:

Any suggestions towards fixing this problem, would be greatly appreciated as I would prefer to keep the latest OS update, rather than risk getting exposed due to an outdated OS.

    - Best Regards!

Hello Mailer, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm afraid that I don't know of a way yet to change this either.

Option 2 - Can these be changed?

Does anyone know if there is a way to change, possibly via the registry, which 2 View Options are visible at the bottom right hand corner of the screen? It would be nice to be able to just have my preferred 2 options rather than the 2 that Microsoft has picked or having to go up to the View Tab and then picking the option I want for new folders.

Hello PMCF, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I haven't seen anything for changing those in Option Two so far. They appear to be hard coded.
