    Hi,
This seems to only affect icons that I put there. I am trying to get rid of the MS Edge and Store icons.
These icons don't exist in $env:USERPROFILE\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\ and deleting the registry key has no affect as after a reboot they return.

Does anyone know where these icons are coming from and how to stop them?

    Thanks

    W.

    Edit:
I've found how to remove the store icon:
    HKCU:Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\ShowWindowsStoreAppsOnTaskbar

    DWORD 00000001 = enabled
    DWORD 00000002 = disabled

Hello woter, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

You should be able to just right click on the icon on the taskbar to "Unpin from taskbar".

    Hi Brink,

    Thanks for your reply.

Is this based on your findings? I ask as I can unpin, but on a reboot they come back. (At least the Edge icon still does).

No mandatory profiles or anything like that.

I'm thinking MS have done something to try and force it to remain. There're a few Google hits on modifying it during OSD, i.e. burning the unpinned settings into the default user hive.

    Thanks again,

    W.

So far I've been able to unpin Edge and Store and not have them automatically restored.

I'm not sure why it would be restored for you.

    Woter,

You might also see if this below may be related to your issue with the Store app.

    Hello woldsweather, :)

Did you notice explorer restarting when you ran the .bat file?

If you like, manually delete the items in the blue note box at the top of the tutorial, and restart the explorer process (or restart computer) to manually clear pinned apps on the taskbar.

I didn't notice explorer restaring bu then I am never sure what explorer is when they say open explorer? I have navigated
    to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
but don't see any entries that look like task bar items.

An example I have a firefox icon pinned to the taskbar that doesn't work. I navigate to start items - firefox, then only option is to pin to taskbar. I now have one working icon and one not working that I would like to remove.

Deleting both the two items below and restarting the computer afterwards should clear pinned apps on your taskbar. These are the two items the .bat file should have deleted for you, but for some reason didn't.

Delete this key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband

    Delete this folder:
    %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
