How to Move or Copy Games and Apps Between Storage Devices on Xbox One

    information   Information
The Xbox One is equipped with a 500 GB or 1 TB internal hard drive depending on which console you purchased. Most of this space is available for storing games and apps, though some is reserved for saved games, console software, and other important system functions.

A triple-A game on Xbox One can use around 20 GB and 40 GB of storage space on a drive. Installing a lot of games can quickly use up the internal drive space of your Xbox One.

If you connected and setup an external storage drive to your Xbox One, you will be able to copy or move games and apps between the Xbox One's internal drive and connected external drive(s).

This tutorial will show you how to manage external storage to move or copy games and apps between storage devices on Xbox One.

    Note   Note
Cloud saves let you play games on multiple consoles. If you have more than one Xbox One console, or if you want to play games at a friend's house, you can store your saved games in the cloud (on our Xbox Live servers). This way you can continue playing a game on a different console, right from where you left off.

    Hello
i must admit I have only read through this tutorial quickly, but have spent some time trying to move / copy games between xbox1 hard drives. I have the internal 1TB HDD and 2x 2TB external hard drives.....can not find how to copy from any HDD to any HDD, it keeps defaulting to the source / destination I don’t want ( be so much easier to havetwo rows of radio buttons, Source & Target ) but why would MS make anything easy LOL
so is there a simple way I can chose source and target out of 3 drives ?

also spent ages trying to get a different 2TB HDD to work, just kept coming up as a media device....

had similar issues with the 2nd external 2TB HDD until I formatted it as GPT then it worked....sorry I digressed ......

    Hello Red Dwarf,

When setting up the external drive, you should be able to select to Install new things here at step 7 below. The screenshots may have changed a bit with the new OS version on Xbox, but it should help get you there.

    Hello
Yes that’s still the way, in fact under the HDD s there is a transfer option which once clicked takes you back to the main screen, I assumed this st up the HDD as the source, might be correct, once games have been selected and copy or move selected it asks which HDD you want to copy / move to.....so simple, I didn’t do that last step so didn’t see that.
so looks like select transfer on the HDD you want as source then chose the target drive once copy or move is selected
but getting HDD s recognised is still an issue, luckily I had 2 x 2TBB HDD s I could repurpose....

    thank you
