    Hi,

Thanks a lot for this. After spending hours reading the same recommendations that never help (SFC, DISM, Powershell commands, etc.), this is the only fix that made my Start menu reappear (using Windows 10 Pro 1809).

This workaround should be advertised more widely.

    Thanks again.

You're most welcome. I'm glad it could help.

Just a word of caution to anyone using this. Make sure you perform a cloned backup. I'm still discovering critical registry problems with third party apps and programs namely, vlc, potplayer, irfanview, jdownloader, avidemux and had to reinstall because they were broken. There are probably more as I use the other 62 apps I use occasionally. I did perform only the built-in Win 7/10 restore point before but that is my mistake.

Hello JC, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. The registry key being deleted in this tutorial is basically just a cache that stores your Start layout settings. When the registry key below gets deleted, it will reset your Start layout back to default after you sign out and sign in. The registry key will automatically get recreated for the new reset Start layout.

The issues you describe shouldn't have been caused by this. To be extra safe, folks could just back up their Start layout below that gets deleted.

Just to verify, did you sign out and sign in after doing the tutorial to delete the registry key above?

After somewhat messing up the look of my Start menu, I used the registry file posted by OP. Below is what it looks like now. Is this how it's supposed to be? It's somewhat more condensed than it was initially. No issue with it, but it's definitely not as wide as before (or as pictured in the first post).

It also switched back to the old Edge logo but I guess that's gonna change again in time.

Hello Tolvo, and welcome to Ten Forums.

That looks about right for the default size of the Start menu. You can use an option in the tutorial below to resize the Start menu how you like though.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

The Microsoft Edge icon on the tile may be a glitch. As a test, open it to see if it's the old or new Microsoft Edge. If it is the new one, you could try unpinning the tile from Start, and pin it to Start again to toggle it and hopefully have the correct icon.
