    Hello dogpark, :)

A repair install should be able to repair the issues found in the troubleshooter.

    Hi Brink,

Sadly the repair install did not fix my problem. Still getting same result from the start menu troubleshooter & logging the same msgs in event viewer. I did attempt the Reset Start Menu Layout to Default tutorial again, alas no TileDataLayer folder .
I suppose a Clean Install (Reset?) is next?

I see many posts regarding this Start Menu issue (answers microsoft) & some say even after a Clean Install the problem persists. It did just start with the Fall Update v1709. Do you think there is a fix coming as some of the posts on Microsoft Answers Community suggest?

    Thank you

If you create a new account on the PC, does the new account have the same issue?

No, the new account works perfectly - just as the builtin Administrator account does. I thought about just keeping it.

So, I did just finish performing a Reset & Start Menu is back to normal now. Probably not a bad thing, don't think I've done a clean install since Windows 7.

Thanks again SOOO much for your wonderful tutorials :)

    Problems caused

I used the file and it worked. The start menu tiles were reset.

However, it has just put all of the tiles into the start menu apps list.

Normally this would not be a problem with apps, but I also had commonly accessed folders (my work folders) as links in my start menu tiles.

Now all of these are in my start menu apps list and there are no options to delete them.

What can I do to solve this?

Hello, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You might see if you may be able to remove them from All Apps using the method in the tutorial below.

That worked. It deleted them from the Tiles too, but I could add them back without it going into the apps list.

May I also ask for the link to the way to get rid of other unwanted apps in the start menu list. I have found other ones which show how to remove most of the unwanted extra apps that come with the windows installation, but still a few remain, such as Connect, GameBar, Paint 3D, Snip N Sketch, and Your Phone.

Unfortunately, the only way to remove Microsoft Store apps from the All Apps list is to uninstall the app.

    Hi,

Thanks a lot for this. After spending hours reading the same recommendations that never help (SFC, DISM, Powershell commands, etc.), this is the only fix that made my Start menu reappear (using Windows 10 Pro 1809).

This workaround should be advertised more widely.

    Thanks again.
