Did some more testing today. Looks like CopyProfile = true works wonderfully, as long as I don't run windows updates. When I install the CU (even the new one from today 8/11/15 KB3081436) and CopyProfile true in unattend.xml, the search bar is broken after osd.
    Update:
After more testing, CopyProfile only works for me as long as the CU isn't applied. On my test image I've run copyprofile and avoided updates. After deployment and a new AD account is created on the machine, that user account wont have the broken search bar problem. If I then run updates on that same account the search bar will still work. However, when I logon with another user account after the CU has been applied, the search bar for that new profile is broken.

I will have to try this (not running updates on the Windows Image before sysprepping with copyprofile set to true). I too, have been puzzled with the search bar issue after sysprepping in Windows 10. I have tried a bunch of things and never found a solution (I have made a few images and they all had the broken search bar issue after sysprepping). I will let you know how it goes after I am done. Thanks for the Update! Sounds like the updates must be the issue.

Just to let you and everyone know, I had an image already done and I wanted to test and see if removing the updates on an existing image with the broken search would have any effect for new user accounts and YES it fixes the search function. I would assume that removing all of the updates at once will fix it, but just in-case I will let everyone know what I did. Basically I went to the control panel, add remove programs, clicked show Windows Updates and uninstalled all of the updates but the security update. (I had 3 updates and one security update, 4 total) I left the security update and rebooted and tried to login with a new account and the search was still broken. So I went back to the MS updates in the control panel and uninstalled the security update that I left and rebooted to login with another new user account (so at this point all the updates were uninstalled). When I logged in the search function was working! So I am not positive if ALL need to be removed, or if it was just that one security update that was the issue. So anyways, just letting you know that removing the updates on an image that has already been sysprepped with copy profile set to true with installed updates, will fix the search issue for NEW accounts.

EDIT: Actually it fixes ALL Accounts. Even ones previously created when it was broken. I also reported the problem in the Windows 10 feedback app under "Cortana and search/ Cortana Search UI"

Okay, that sounds -- beyond a shadow of a doubt -- like a bug to me.

Has anyone reported this in the Feedback app? If so, please tell me what to search for so I can vote for it.

I would take out as many irrelevant details as possible, as the engineers at Microsoft tend to ignore extremely long reports.

Has anyone else experienced problems with onedrive after sysprepping and copyprofile set to true? I just tested sysprepping 10240 without network connection and after login the onedrive icon from the taskbar is gone. Starting onedrive from start menu does nothing - a bug perhaps? It seems that onedrive is pointing to audit mode's administrator account and not local user's?

Also using Explorer and selecting Desktop (fast shortcut) doesn't work after sysprepping because it is pointing to administrator's desktop and not user's desktop.

minority, I haven't seen that but I haven't really tested OneDrive with Windows 10 after generalizing it with Sysprep, either.

    Couple of questions:

    1. You said that the OneDrive icon disappears from the notification area. Does it disappear after login into Windows or after login to OneDrive?

    2. You said that you are using build 10240. Are you using the pre-July 29 10240 or you using the RTM 10240 that came from the Microsoft download tool? I ask because I have found huge differences in Sysprep stability between the two versions of 10240.

This problem could be language specific. I have Finnish language version (Windows 10 Pro x64).

    1. Windows login. The OneDrive icon won't even appear right after login into Windows for the first time (local nor Microsoft ID). So basically right after sysprep you create Windows account and then login into Windows - there is no OneDrive icon. Even if I try to start OneDrive from all programs it won't start - nothing happens. There should be OneDrive wizard starting where you could enter OneDrive login info etc. but nothing.

After some testing I got it to start by manually executing OneDriveSetup.exe in user's folder /AppData/Local/Microsoft/OneDrive/17.3.5892.0626 but I don't think this is the way it should be.

    2. The iso-image that I used was downloaded with Microsoft's tool (MediaCreationToolx64.exe) after 29th of July so it should be RTM-iso.

Even if I let Windows download all updates in audit mode and then use sysprep OneDrive won't work with newly created users - and then Windows Search won't work either.

I have now removed the warnings from the tutorial and added this note instead:

    Note   Note
    Please notice before proceeding!

Since the launch, I have now (August 17th 2015) tested various Sysprep scenarios quite extensively. Customizing Windows with the CopyProfile component set to True (Parts Three, Four and Five in this tutorial) was causing issues in earlier builds of Windows 10. Either the Sysprep failed directly, or it caused an endless reboot loop when in OOBE (Part Nine), or it disabled the Start and Search / Cortana when done.

I now get 100% success rate and can replicate a successful Sysprep run with this simple workaround, Sysprep working perfectly every time and customization / generalization with CopyProfile set to True working perfectly:

    • Disconnect your technician machine used for customizing the Windows image completely from all networks before starting the installation
    • Be sure that you install Windows 10 without entering the product key and without any whatsoever network connection
    • When booted to Audit Mode desktop (Part Two), you can connect the machine to the network to download and install Windows ADK and software
    • As Windows is not activated when booted to Audit Mode when following these guidelines you cannot customize the theme. Use a Windows themepack file instead, for instance creating the theme (colors, backgrounds, sounds, screensaver) you'd like to use for the default user profile on another computer and applying the themepack file on the technician machine before the Sysprep

You can now run Sysprep normally and without issues.

Kari, are you still having problems with the network being connected? I haven't experienced any issue on RTM.
