Hi Ximosam, welcome to Ten Forums.

You are doing nothing wrong, you didn't forget anything.

The default user profile is only used with local accounts in workgroup environment. In domain environment the domain default profile will be used.

It's about the same as default user profile in workgroup environment with Microsoft accounts. This note can be found at the very end of Part Four in this tutorial:
    Note   Note
Please notice that all customizations work for local user accounts but some of them may be overwritten when using a Microsoft Account for signing in to Windows, depending on sync settings user has selected. Microsoft Account synced profile customizations void any default user profile customizations.

The same applies to a domain account; a domain default profile will be applied instead of local default profile.

Thaks for you response Kari. Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the default user in the domain? I access my pc and in the list of users (including hidden ones) I only have a user "Default" (I understand the local). My pc is attached to the domain ... The users that I have in my pc are: Administrator, Public, my user and "Default" (hidden). When I do the sysprep appears a user that is "Defaultoprofile0" ... but I delete it before generalize. is that the user?Thank you

A domain administrator sets up your domain account. He / she can even direct you to use a different profile:
Customize Windows 10 Image in Audit Mode with Sysprep-image.png
(Screenshot from my Windows 2016 Server & domain controller.)

There's basically nothing you can do; all settings made by domain administrator will overwrite your local settings. However, you can freely customize your desktop once signed in to domain. In screenshot below I have customized my domain profile (theme, colours etc.) when signing in on a Windows 10 workstation with a domain account:
Customize Windows 10 Image in Audit Mode with Sysprep-image.png

    Two things to remember:
    1. Default profile customizations only apply to a local account
    2. A local account JohnDoe is not the same as a domain account JohnDoe; local account user JohnDoe signing in to a domain account JohnDoe, the domain settings will override any local settings

Windows Updates reinstalled by MDT ?

    Hello

I have a Windows 10 1607 hyper-v reference image I update with all Windows updates prior to capturing and deploying. I recently noticed that when MDT gets to the Windows update step it is reinstalling many if the same updates I had already added to the image. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Sorry for a delayed reply.

You are not doing anything wrong. I would not bother to update image before deploying it because, as you noticed, MDT will do it in any case.

Geeks, totally related to this tutorial, I posted this in another customization tutorial just now:

Fellow geeks, I have been thinking to continue Ten Forums live broadcast tradition and host one about Part Three in this tutorial, creating a custom hardware independent ISO with preinstalled software showing the process from scratch to end product.

Just checking if there's any interest for live session this Saturday, the 25th. If you are interested and think you might be interested to participate, reply to this post telling what would be the time of the day best suiting you. If there's enough interest and we could find a time slot suitable for most, we'll do this.

Live session would be with video / audio / text chat, joining does not require any this or that accounts. It would last about 90 minutes, possible "after chat" excluded.
The quote is from Create Windows 10 ISO image from Existing Installation. If you are interested, please reply in that thread.

    Hi Kari,

First of all I love all your tutorials and they help me a lot in preparing Custom Images. Thanks a lot for them.:)

I am trying to sysprep Windows 10 1607 Build 14393.969. Sysprep run completely shutting down/restarting the laptop in end. When I am trying to capture the windows from WDS capture, I am not able to find any volume to capture. For your reference Laptop is HP Elitebook Folio G1.

Here one more thing I would to mention that it's a SSD and the image I used for formatting this laptop model was syspreped for other laptop model.

    Access Denied

Please help me what I am doing wrong here.

Are you able to capture the image using DISM? In case you don't know how to do that, see Part Four in this tutorial: Create Windows 10 ISO image from Existing Installation

Examples of what can't be modified:
    - Pinned icons (Taskbar and Start) will not be copied to default profile
    - Start Menu and Start Screen will remain default, cannot be modified
I want to customize my Windows image with a custom start menu and taskbar. How would I go by doing this. I've seen that this can be done in this TechNet article: Configure Windows 10 taskbar (Windows 10)

Can I add this to the "unattended" xml-file? If not, how can I automate the process with PowerShell script so that the OOBE updates the Start Menu and Taskbar for me?

Thanks for any help regarding this.

Yes, since build 14393 that has been possible. I'll wait until Creators Update version 1703 has been launched (April11th) and will then update the tutorial with all changes in this process.

    Here's how to do it:

In Audit Mode, edit Start as you prefer. In PowerShell, export current Start layout to file C:\Windows\System32\MyStart.xml (file name and path my suggestion, exported XML must be accessible to all users):

    Code:
    Export-StartLayout C:\Windows\System32\MyStart.xml
Now edit the exported XML in Notepad, add your Taskbar customizations. When done open Group Policy Editor (WIN + R, type gpedit.msc). Browse to Local Computer Policy > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar on left pane, double click Start Layout on right pane.

Enable policy, enter C:\Windows\System32\MyStart.xml as Start Layout File, click OK to save policy.
