    • CopyProfile works perfectly apart from a small glitch (end users seeing built-in admin desktop and recent files in Quick Access. This can be easily fixed)
Can you explain how best to remove the link to the admin desktop in the Quick access list - can this be done via a login script or similar?

    Thanks!

Hi Madcat, welcome to the Ten Forums.

It's easy and logical. You can use synchronous commands in answer file or simply this trick (my favorite!):

Before running Sysprep in Audit Mode, create the following batch file and save it as ANYNAME.bat in
    %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup:
    Code:
    echo Y | del %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\automaticdestinations\*
    del %0
    The batch file explained:
    • echo Y | = Pipes (sends) a letter Y to the command given after the Pipe (|) character
    • del %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\automaticdestinations\* = Resets the Quick Access to defaults. This command expects the user to enter either Y for Yes or N for No. As the Y will be in this case piped, user interaction is not needed but instead the Y will be entered automatically
    • del %0 = Deletes the batch file itself after it has been run. Leaving this away, not deleting the batch file, would reset the Quick Access every time the user signs in

File is now saved in built-in admin's Startup folder, which will be copied among other customizations to Default User Profile when you sysprep with CopyProfile set TRUE using the /generalize switch.

Now whenever a new user account will be created, be it the initial user created in OOBE or any user created anytime later, the batch will be run once for each user resetting the Quick Access to defaults and then removing itself.

    Multiple Editions

Hi, does anyone have any idea how to make an answer file for a setup with install.wim that contains multiple editions?
I've made one to include Core, Pro, Eduction and Enterprise editions X86 and X64 all in one.

I get that you can have multiple <component> tags with all those editions and architectures but what about the <cpi:offlineImage> tag?

You can install updates, but you can't install new builds (like 1511). For new builds, you will need to recreate your image.

That's why CopyProfile and Audit Mode are no longer supported. ICD allows you to quickly recreate your images, which is the supported way to create images now.

I am getting tired for this, always correcting the wrong information from the the same source.

Audit Mode is still supported and totally working. CopyProfile when set to TRUE has a small glitch for which I have posted the simple solution earlier in this thread, last time only a few days ago.

I had built a Windows image using Enterprise build 10240 but prevented Windows from obtaining updates because I needed to use CopyProfile, which at that time would break Cortana. Now that build 1511 is out can I do an in place upgrade of those machines without Cortana breaking? The alternative is that I make a new image based on 1511 from scratch and re-image all of my machines again, which I would prefer not to do.

In-place upgrade on a working system does not break Cortana, at least it has never done it for me.

If you install the OS with a network connection and install windows updates in audit mode does copyprofile still break search? I've been avoiding installing any updates in audit mode because of this.
