Donít have administrator password, donít have windows install media

    Hi all,

Iím visiting my mother and am trying to resurrect Momís desktop from the ďlogin method you are using is not allowed on this computerĒ issue. Some details:

    OS = Windows 10.
One user account, tied to Momís MSN live account. Weíre able to sign into that account via a separate computer with her known mail address and password.
One administrator account. To my knowledge, we had never accessed that account previously, and I had never seen it pop up. That started happening (according to Mom, who I hadnít seen in a year) 6 months ago.
I followed the instructions on TenForums for bringing up a command prompt, but only the Administrator account shows up for selection to log into. All of the other options listed in the TenForums post require a Windows installation disk or USB drive, neither of which we have.

What can we do next? Not being able to reach a live body at Microsoft wasnít helpful - so any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

    Bill

    Bill,

So why don't you just log in to the account you mention with the username Administrator then? It has no password by default. This is what I think you mean by, "only the Administrator account shows up for selection to log into".

Or have I misunderstood? If so, please clarify [possibly you could post screenshots of what you have referred to] so the situation can be better comprehended.

We tried logging into Administrator with a blank password, and any variation of the password Mom uses that we could think of...no luck. Sorry for not including that in the question,

    Hello Makwek,

If you have another computer to use, you could create the Windows 10 installation USB on it, to be able to use option 5 on your Mom's computer to enable the built-in Administrator account in a command prompt at boot.

You are referring to an account that has the username Administrator and not simply any Admin account?

The account was named Administrator. I believe it’s the only Admin account on the system since, when I got to the Control Prompt, “Administrator” was the only choice listed for accounts to log into.

Thanks for being patient - it’s my first time for dealing with something like this.

It sounds like this is the built-in "Administrator" with that name.

If you're locked out of this account and all other administrator accounts, you may end up needing to reset Windows 10 to start over.

    Brink is correct.

But that account does not have a password by default. Either it is corrupt or somebody has given it a password.

You ought to be able to log into that account by pressing the return key without entering anything in that password entry box.

    Typo:

    Code:
If your computer no longer as a working administrator account left to use, you could enable the built-in Administrator account using an available option in this tutorial to have to fix any issues needing an administrator account.
