    Hello Stan,

The built-in "Administrator" account is an elevated account that runs as administrator by default with full control.

Usually when you get a "Administrator privileges required" message, it means you needed to use Run as administrator to perform your action with elevated rights.

previously i got that message, i would log off then bak into the built-in administrator account, but that account did not have the program that i was working on when i got the "Administrator privileges required" message and gave up. Next time when i get "Administrator privileges required" message, i will try to figure out how to invoke Run as Administrator .

    thanks again

I created an account on this forum specifically to say thank you for this tutorial! It helped me restore my pc after the last update wouldn't accept my login pin, or my password in safe mode. You saved my sanity!

Hello Chymane, and welcome to Ten Forums.

    Which option are you using?

Are you signed in to an administrator account, or using "Run as administrator"?

    Hi Shawn,

Well the new laptop is going okay so far. The worst part was having to complete the initial setup in Greek (my Greek isn't so good) after the place I bought it from told me they would set it up with English then, after I had paid for the machine, told me it would cost extra to do so. I wasn't impressed and decided to do it myself. At least I got some practice in translating Greek. The new install itself went very quickly and smoothly.

Anyway I'm on to the basic housekeeping now. I want to make changes to the built in admin acount. If I have understood correctly, at Step 4 I can both enable and add a password to the account. If I add a password is there any real need to also change the name of the account? (as this looks to be a much longer task).

Probably the first of many questions. If my memory were better, maybe I wouldn't need to ask them.

    Thanks for your continued help,

    Maggi

    Hello Maggi,

Correct, you can enable and add a password at step 4 (Option 1) if wanted, or just enable without a password at step 3.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about renaming the built-in Administrator account unless you just wanted to. If you do, it would be best to rename it before you ever enable the account once so its profile folder will also have the new name.
