    @ Brink

Thank you for this terrific tutorial. I have the icon in the taskbar and off the desktop proper on my secondary PC, and I have a discovery to report and a small (very small, trivial even) question to ask.

I have a toolbar already operating in the taskbar (It's a brilliant re-imagining of the Quick Launch Bar, called True Launch Bar, by Yuri Kobets), and I found that I could incorporate the Recycle Bin icon (after following your tutorial to put it on the taskbar) into that taskbar program and both keep the essential properties of the Recycle Bin icon AND access the full properties of the True Launch Bar program.

So, I'm really pleased about that, and I thank you for getting me to the point of discovering this customization.

Now the question: I re-designed an icon from the Net to use for my desktop Recycle Bin. I made both an empty and a full. Now I'm wondering whether you know how I can use "Properties > Change Icon" for the Recycle Bin after I've installed it on the taskbar (and for purposes of this question, assume I haven't put the icon inside another toolbar program, it's just at the left end of my taskbar, next to my Start icon). I've tried the standard procedure, and it either doesn't work or makes the icon no longer function as empty/full indicator. Any ideas?

    Hello @Wisewiz,

Unfortunately, to update the icon on the taskbar, you will need to unpin from taskbar, and start over to pin to taskbar again after changing the Recycle Bin icons.

Thank you, Dr. Brink. I feel much better now. I'll give 'er a try.

    @ Brink

The question (above) was, "Does this still show the empty and full states of the recycle bin?"

When I followed the tutorial carefully, I think I was getting the empty/full icon alternation, but I lost it later. That may well be because I tried fiddling the Recycle Bin toolbar INTO another toolbar. I started over again from scratch (deleted icon turned off toolbar in taskbar context menu, deleted folder I had made at the beginning), and this time, I left the new toolbar icon alone at the right end of the taskbar.
No alternation. Did it all again from scratch. No alternation. Always "empty" icon.
Tried it on another computer. No alternation between empty and full icons, still.
Any idea why I might be having no success with getting the icons to alternate when Bin is empty or has contents?

[Update:] Could the fact that I have custom icons for the Bin (and they're recorded in the registry with the ",0" added) make the difference?

    Thanks,

    Dan
