Thanks Shawn! I may be too attached to the shells and their various links and libraries. OneDrive by itself may suffice.

    You da man!

Yep I've never been a big fan of sync and always used it as what it is a website with all of your goodies on it that can be signed into from any computer anywhere with an internet connection,
And it works very well like that,
Manually upload when I want too
    Cheers.

Onedrive doesn't work! The settings to choose folders etc. are grayed out! I'm on build 10240.

Thanks for the tutorial but in my case I can't sync my folders. Not because of a bug but because of the size of them. I have one folder which is 240 Gb which I need to get at certain files regularly - my solution until Microsoft give us something that works like Windows 8.1.1 is to keep them when I need them on my PC and then copy them back - I use "File Brick" as it allow me to see all my files on OneDrive and also to just click on them to open them on my machine. I also allows me to access all my "cloud services" in one place as well and copy from one cloud service to another. It just works which is more than can be said for OneDrive in Windows 10.

Please note I have no vested interest in File Brick - it just seems to do what I need currently. Once Microsoft give us the features that we need in Windows 10 OneDrive I will go back to just using it on it's own. The feature that I am talking about has been raised in OneDrive "user voice" see following URL -

add an advanced option to restore showing ALL OneDrive files in Explorer, synced or not – Feature Suggestions for Windows

Currently there are nearly 17000 votes for it but as normal Microsoft is not listening. If you have had issues with OneDrive in Windows 10 and are syncing back and forth large amounts of data it will be worth voting for it.

Just an add to tutorial, you can also right click the OneDrive icon in Systray and select settings to get to the folder selection (if it was already mentioned I missed it)

Anyway, upgraded one of my old PCs to W10 recently and I guess when setting up Windows I told it to sync. It synced everything, even a backup folder which top level (not in documents) or any other folder that comes up in the sync settings. Since it was a backup it was huge and thus I blew past my monthly Comcast cap in less than 5 days.

Another very odd behavior of OneDrive is that when you unsync, which is what I did a bit too late, it deletes all the files off your pc. That makes no sense. It should prompt you if you want to do that - unsyncing and deleting are two radically different words!

There have been a lot of complaints about the way that OneDrive works in Windows 10. They have fixed some of it in Office 365 and Mobile Office (Windows 10 Phone) but you still don't have "placeholders" like we had in Windows 8.1. Also you can't browse OneDrive in Windows 10 using file explorer you have to use the web interface.

    Hope this helps

I totally agree with you about the folders that you have chosen to Sync but currently one of my folders in 250 Gb and I have about 400 Gb in OneDrive which I can't download onto my tablet and I haven't currently got enough room on my PC to sync, let along the time and bandwidth it would take to sync the folders initially. I currently only bring back individual files using the web interface until Microsoft sort out Windows 10 OneDrive.

There isn't the problem with Windows 10 Phone OneDrive implementation seem to have done it another way - " mobile connected browse experience retrieves folder and file name metadata in real time and only retrieves files when operations are performed " - I am hoping that the PC implementation is changed to this as it really works well on the Windows 10 Phone Insider implementation for me on my Lumia 930.
