So I activated Onedrive on one of my devices. Pretty sure some of the panels in this tutorial are now dated. In any event.


I have all the folders enabled but Onedrive is not adding my files from this pc to OneDrive. I know there is a tutorial about making a link but as this is already one of Windows libraries ( example Documents) I did not think this was the way to go. I saw there is a "Move" process but in those tutorials Shawn recommends an Image backup which I know a lot of every day people don't use. Must be an easy, easy way to tell MS's product to add libraries from current device.


I also notice in this version of Onedrive there is a menu option called Sync and Backup. I'm confused. Once I get my Documents library syncing why would I be backing it up. (Is it just to catch files I only keep on "This device"? If there is a another purpose to "Backing" a library up how do I add libraries like Music, video or Downloads. The panel presented has Documents, Pictures and Desktop and no way to add.

Hello Ken,

Just to confirm, do you mean "folder" or an actual "library"?

Usually, you would select folders to sync with OneDrive and not libraries, but you can select the folders included in the library.

Well I guess I mean libraries and the library will have folders, lots and lots of folders and even dozens of individual files, both in documents and desktop.


I'm looking for a very easy way to take the contents of an existing device and have it become part of OneDrive.



and of course I don't understand what they mean by backup if files already syncing.

Edit - and all those boxes in the tutorial are already checked. What isn't happening is the contents of this device being added to the existing Onedrive folders.

You might see if the method below may help with syncing any folder to OneDrive that's not already included in the checked boxes.

Thanks. That was the tutorial I was referring to in my original post "making a link"


As "Documents" is already a Onedrive folder I would expect I would have to delete that folder as per the tutorial. Says I can't have a folder already.

( I have reservations doing this) Your thoughts on what it would actually delete. Not trying to delete my original Onedrive folder, just add more data to it. Your thoughts?

Strange, this must be something that users regularly go through. They want to start using onedrive and they have several devices and all the document libraries need to be merge.
