I updated my main install to Slow Ring 16251 which is quite stable.

This has bought back placeholders in effect, do now you only use onedrive resources on demand, if you set it up like that.

Well then I have a problem somewhere b/c it is slow after settling in.
My upload is 6 Mbps and the download is about 26 Mbps.
I have Comcast as a PC carrier.
I have an older Dell XPS 8300 with only 6 GB RAM and my HDD is 650 - WD. The Seagate failed about a year ago.
Maybe the low ram could account for the sluggishness.
I have a folder in OneDrive and it has about 40 photos.

This would be for turning on OneDrive "Files on demand" if you have at least build 16215 installed.

15063.50 is what I see when I 'run' winver.
Unless I have the wrong build, I am all set with my system and thank you for your help.

In that case, OneDrive "Files on-demand" wouldn't be available for you yet.

If you haven't already, you might see if any of the options below may help some with performance.

So here's my problem: I have games from Steam that save local files to My Documents, which is fine. I also have personal documents that I have manually put into My Documents. I do not want my game folders to backup to OneDrive; I just want them on my PC. However, when I uncheck the game folders in the "Choose folders" section in OneDrive, they are deleted from my PC. I like the fact that OneDrive is syncing my personal files in My Documents, but how can I tell OneDrive to leave my game folders in My Documents and not back them up online? The only reason I want this is because OneDrive syncs while I'm playing the game--which makes me feel like I'm losing performance--and because I don't need to backup the game folder, since all of the important game data is saved online through Steam. Hopefully, this isn't too difficult to understand. If none of this is possible, then I guess I could just pause syncing before I start the game, but obviously, I would prefer not to have to babysit OneDrive.

    Hello TON,

This option is for having them sync to OneDrive instead of just backup.

You should be able to mark the folder Steam uses as Always keep on this device using an option in the tutorial below.

Mark OneDrive Files as Always keep on this device in Windows 10

Afterwards, you could see if unchecking the folder Steam uses under Documents in OneDrive settings like in step 6 on the first page here may stop them from syncing to OneDrive.

    Unchecking it from where exactly?

EDIT: I think I just solved it--sort of. OneDrive creates its own Documents folder, which will sync online--no matter what. The OneDrive Documents folder doesn't allow you to save files locally unless they're synced online with OneDrive. If you select to unsync it, it deletes the file online and offline.
