How to Pin or Unpin Folder Locations for Quick access in Windows 10

The Quick access page is the shortest route to files you've been working on and folders you often use. These are your frequent folders and recent files.

You can "Pin to Quick access" and "Unpin from Quick access" locations in Windows 10. These locations include local and network folders, drives, libraries, Recycle Bin, etc..., but files and apps cannot be pinned to Quick access.

This tutorial will show you how to "Pin to Quick access" and "Unpin from Quick access" local and network folders, drives, libraries, OneDrive, This PC, Recycle Bin, etc... locations in Windows 10.

Pinned locations will display under Frequent folders in Quick access in File Explorer.

Items you pin or unpin for Quick access will also be pinned or unpinned in the jump list of File Explorer on the taskbar and Start menu.

Anyone know a fix for folders that refuse to be added to Quick Access (I have some folders on my Popcorn hour that's connected over the network I want to add) and how to remove a folder that refuses to be unpinned no matter how many times I right click it and choose unpin? :)

Hello Placebo, and welcome to Ten Forums.

What folder are you trying to unpin?

You might see if you are able to for both after clearing and resetting frequent places and recent items. :)

Thanks you for the welcome! Found the Eight Forums eternally useful and glad to see there's a ten version as well!

The folders I'm trying to pin/unpin are network folders which are on my Popcorn Hour, I used to have three different folders that I'd added to favourites:

    Football
    Paul TV Shows
    TV Shows

Would make it very easy to drag files from my PC where they'd been downloaded over to the Popcorn Hour ready to watch in the bedroom.

If fixed the issue with the folder I couldn't unpin, was a random TV Show subfolder I'm sure I never asked to pin! I re-ticked "show frequently used folders in quick access" and then "clear file explorer history" and then I tried unpin again on the folder and it finally went!

Unfortunately it's only letting me add one folder from my Popcorn Hour, I've tried mapping network drives to each folder and pinning that way but again it won't let me, just does nothing when I right click and choose "Pin".

I had the brilliant idea of using the locate tab in file properties to move my music to a folder on my NAS box rather than keep it on my PC. This has been successful but I can't unpin the old music location from quick access.

    Hey Nick, :)

If you like, you might play with changing the storage save location for the "Music" folder to your NAS (if available there) to see if that may work better. That way the "Music" folder in Quick Access will open and save to the NAS.

Yea I did look at the save location but it didn't pick up the NAS as a save point. Maybe because I chose my personal area instead of the putting the music in the public folder on the NAS?

Could be. You might setup a test folder in the public area to see if you like.
