Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 10  

Windows 10 x64 desktop installed on a Samsung SSD 850 Pro (512GB)



It is unclear whether in this scenario hibernation is useful. Can't find a clear answer on that.
Some say 'Leave it to Windows' others say 'It may only be useful in case of laptops'.
I don't know.

It really depends on your wants and needs for if Hibernate is useful or not.

Here are some things to consider:

• Hibernate can use up a large amount of disk space.
• When you hibernate, it does take a bit to save everything to memory before it actually hibernates.
• If there are periods of time you don't use the computer and too short to be shutting down, you can hibernate to save energy and make it easy to pick up where you left off when ready to resume.
• If you use "Fast Startup", you must have hibernate enabled.
• If you only want to use "Fast Startup" and not hibernate, you can specify the hiberfil as reduced to save disk space.

Is there a way to disable hibernate on a wondows 10 computer without booting it up?
Maybe there is a linux program that can do this? Wine or other...
My computers arrangement changed and it won't boot now, and it had just upgraded at the time... it's been a while till I got around to it.

Hello Brink, I've appreciated your tutorials since the beginning Windows 7 days! I'm wondering if this can be done to the registry on a mounted wim? I ask because there is no "CurrentControlSet" in the registry of a stock iso. My guess is that key is not created until installation to a specific machine. I've been able to do things like disable Cortana and One Drive, and remove shortcut overlay.

If it were a matter of adding the CurentControlSet key, that seems simple, but on my existing system the CurrentControlSet key has many subkeys. Can I create the CurrentControlSet key, add the "power" key, then add the HibernateEnabled Dword, and when installed will it merge with all of the other keys that are created?
