    Hello,

Disabling Cortana for all users using the method in the tutorial below will still allow having the search box.

It is there but when I click on the start button, the searchbox reverts to the cortana symbol..do you know what would cause that?

Did you restart the computer to fully apply?

Go ahead and post a screenshot showing this to see if it may help ID what the issue could be.

So I also have a Start layout where the start menu and taskbar is customized, but i have disabled it and enabled, which changed the cortana symbol to the search magnifying glass but still not the searchbox. Does the schema from the taskbar xml code affect this?

It depends on what you used to customize the Start menu and taskbar. If a 3rd party program, it could cause issues with this.

This is what you should see below with Cortana disabled, and having the taskbar set to "Show search box".

In your screenshot, click/tap on the Show search box option.

It will only set it for your account (current user) though, and not all users.
