    Hello boa, :)

    Are you using the .bat file currently available in the tutorial?

    Do you have the latest build of Windows 10 installed?

    With a little more research I learned that if the screen resolution is below a certain level you will only see the Search Icon, never the box. The particular computer was a netbook running 1024x768

    I have build 1607. My Search Box disappeared when I disabled Cortana (or tried to, since I believe it can be hidden, not disabled).
    I tried your regedit:
    The .bat files below are for the registry key and value below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

    SearchboxTaskbarMode DWORD

    0 = Hidden
    1 = Show Cortana icon
    2 = Show search box

    But this only restored the Search icon, which does nothing, but no search box. I have the right screen resolution and large taskbar buttons.

    Hello cma6, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

    As a test, how does it work using OPTION ONE instead?

    After using "1", there is no longer any Search Box; only the Cortana icon. Nothing happends when that is clicked on.

    I meant the "OPTION ONE" section in the tutorial instead of setting the value to "1". :)

    If you still have Cortana disabled, did you restart the computer to apply? If so, you should only see a Search icon and not a Cortana icon.

    I have had Cortana disabled since I got Win 10. I assume that means that Search Box will not work?

    The search box should still work for searching in Windows when Cortana is disabled.

    What method did you use to disable Cortana? Perhaps part of it may have also disabled search.

    I don't particularly care if there is a Cortana icon or search box. The point is that with Cortana disabled, it seems that one cannot search, e.g., on cannot type into Search box.

    search bar will not show up if u enable "use small taskbar buttons." Also idk if this is related but when u boot up in safe mode, cortana/search bar does not work. when i type in anything, nothing pops up. which forces u to find all your needs manually.
