It turns out that your taskbar must be on the bottom of your main display to have "Show search box" as well.

By golly miss molly. That fixed it... and so simple. Thank you! Its just going to take some getting used to.
I have just run the Show_Search_box_on_Taskbar.bat and my taskbar has completely disappeared. Please help!! how do I get it back?
Hello Martin, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
It sounds like something has interfered with the .bat file restarting explorer. You can do this below to start explorer again.
1) Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) in "More details" view.
2) Click on File (menu bar), and click on Run new task.
3) Type explorer, and click on OK.

Hi, I ran the "Show_Search_Icon_on_Taskbar.bat" file and the screen blanked out. I got the desktop to show up again by restarting the system, but now the taskbar items have white boxes around them, and my Firefox start screen has an all-black background. How do I fix this? Thanks, Karl
Hello kman, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
It sounds like something interfered with the process. See if restarting explorer may sort it for you.

I had only the search icon (magnifying glass). Bat file did enter new keys and set DWORD but no box, just the icon as before. So I guess the question is how to turn the icon into the search box?
