Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
Hi Brink thanks for your reply!
Yes thought about it and I even went as far as setting it up, until I saw the Programs & Games I needed to re-install afterwards.
Seemed like too drastic, and I definitely wanted to try to fix it first before I would continue with a Repair Install. So I'm thinking there must be alternative ways to reset or enable Windows Recovery?
Uhm maybe I selected the wrong option then.
I probably chose to re-install while keeping settings, or something like that.
Perhaps I can try to do it properly after the weekend when I have more time & report back.
I was hopeful there might be a repair tool, Reg & Cmd commands or something, as I like to do it myself.
Plus I keep these instruction (if they work) on a txt file, just in case I don't have internet & I need a way to fix things, so if you know a good link that can guide me thru these steps I would be grateful.
Here's the tutorial I posted above and below that will hopefully help.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
Hi Brink I just found some time today to do Repair Install from an USB, that went flawlessly, but apparently Startup Repair doesn't work properly. I used Shift & Restart, selected Advanced options and then selected Startup Repair. PC rebooted, selected my Microsoft account and then shortly thereafter I got a message saying (not ad verbatim) that Startup Repair couldn't be repaired.
Log: C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Srt/SrtTrail.txt
Its in Dutch so no use to upload it, but there were 15 tests performed, all ending with 0x0 (I think this means good).
Yet there' one root cause (translated): "The boot status indicates that the operating system has started".
Don't know if that makes me any smarter...
Any tips or tricks up your sleeve?
Hello Carlo,
Unfortunately, Startup Repair couldn't be repaired is a generic message that could be from it not needing to be repaired or something wrong and couldn't be repaired.
Looking at the logs like you did is where you may be able to determine what actually happened.
Are you having any startup issues?
No PC boots fine now with a fresh Repair Install, certainly quick & smooth.
A while back he wasn't running so smoothly. Among the many things I tried to fix it I ended up with running a Startup Repair to see if I got any results, and thats how I uncovered the issue I'm reporting here.
"Startup Repair couldn't be repaired is a generic message that could be from it not needing to be repaired or something wrong and couldn't be repaired."
I think you nailed it Brink, because I didn't see any errors in those 15 test results, so it is like you say, Windows couldn't repair, because there was no problem to start with.
Too bad Windows didn't make that clear, like; "there are no problems found", or something like that.
A bit confusing then, thats all, and if this is my biggest problem... I have no problems at all LOL
Thanks Brink
