In order for windows 10 to obey the command to hide the language bar, one must first enable the check box "Use the desktop language bar when it's available".

Once this is enabled, the fact the desktop bar is "hidden" means it disappears all together.

These options appear to override whatever is chosen in the system icons options menu discussed in the original post.

So to clarify, in order to remove the "ENG" icon. Three things must be true:

1. Input Method system icon is set to OFF
2. "Use the desktop language bar when it's available" check box must be ticked in the language preferences -> advanced settings screen.
3. Language bar must be set to HIDDEN in the options menu for the above tick box.

Since you need to switch power plans often, then the "Choose Power Plan" context menu would be the best alternative. This way you can switch plans as needed, and be able to open Power Options from the same context menu.

At first I thought this would put the option to change the power profile across all context menus, but then I realized it will only appear in the desktop context menu, which will work nicely.

Here is my only problem, I have some custom power profiles I created, how can I get those in the context menu instead of just the three default power profiles?

That would be an involved process since the long GUID number for a custom power plan is different per system. This is one of the main reason why I stuck with the default power plans since those have a known GUID that's the same in all Windows.

If you don't mind doing the work with me to have the custom ones, post in that tutorial for this, and I'll walk you through the process to get the GUID, then I can make a .reg file for you for it. :)

Hello, I'm also having this problem with the power notification icon being grayed out but am using a laptop with a battery so I'm not sure why this is happening. I'm using an ASUS K55VD and upgraded to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago. The problem with the power icon has been happening for about a week and a half.
