I'm new here, but not new to registry editing. I think you've done a great job with this site. I have managed to make a number of changes to my system with ease and without delving into the registry.

I have used a number of your registry hacks to remove various things from my context menu today. However, a new 'Run as administrator' seems to have appeared from somewhere:

Add or Remove Run as administrator Context Menu in Windows 10-image-2.png

This appears to be on everything except directories and executable files and it is why I have ended up on this page. When I click it, it doesn't seem to do anything. Instead it displays the following error message:

Add or Remove Run as administrator Context Menu in Windows 10-image-1.png

Executable files still have 'Run as administrator', but it has the user account control icon and works perfectly.

Any ideas why this has appeared and how I might get rid of it? The hacks on this page do not seem to work.

Hello @dking2011, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Hmm, agreed something is wrong. The "Run as administrator" context menu should only be showing for executable files, and not for all files.

Go ahead and export the two registry keys below that are commonly used for all file types as .reg files, and upload them here. I'll be happy to take a look at them to see if the culprit may be there. If so, I'll post back a .reg file that will remove them for you.

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects

Hi Brink, thank you for looking into this for me. It's pretty much the only issue I have right now.

    Found it in Key 1.reg.

Downloading and merging the .reg file below will remove this stray "Run as administrator" context menu for you.

    Remove_Run_as_Administrator_for_dking2011.reg

(Contents of .reg file for reference)

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\RunAs]
