    Hi Shawn

I have the same issue the registry fix does not work for me!!!

    Hello @thorrrr,

You may have something else added in the affected registry keys.

I've updated the .reg file in step 2 to clear these keys first before adding back the default values.

Please download and merge the new .reg file to see if that may work for you now.

    Hello Larry, :)

Please go ahead and provide a link to the "Take Ownership" option you used to see what changes it made. Some of them out there do replace "Run as administrator". The one below from here doesn't though.

I'm a bit green when it comes to the technical side of computers. For over 4 months I have been a slave to an administrator which no matter how I tried, I could not gain permission to run certain programs or install new ones. I have spent over 1 month uploading my important items to GSuite as the man at Microsoft gave me a solution, but it could in the process lose some of my files and programs. I finally finished this morning, so I clicked on the program he sent via email and to my utter rage, I couldn't use it because I needed permission from this administrator that only appeared after my last windows 10 upgrade. Months wasted, I felt like throwing my laptop out the window and instead use my old pc running Windows Vista. As a last resort, I googled my problem and was sent to you. I downloaded the software you recommended and instantly the problem was resolved.

I can't praise you enough. you have achieved in 5 minutes what Microsoft couldn't in 5 months. I've signed up and if I ever have any other problems I know where to go. Sorry for the long-winded message, but I am so grateful for your help.

    Cheers

    John

This context menu thing is turned on for my account which is an admin account. Is it possible to ONLY turn this off for standard user accounts. What about limited accounts in the guest group. On my mom's Win 10 Pro I have a guest account in the guest group to give it limited rights, this is not the same as guest account, that's disabled by Microsoft, this is a standard account that's been restricted further by placing it in the guest group.

So what I'm asking is, can we allow the context menu for admin accounts, and not at all for any other type of account? I deal with Win 10 Pro all around, so I have access to Group Policy Editor, and know my way around a little bit. Be great if this could be a Group Policy thing. Thanks for the tutorial.

    Hello purplenate,

The "Run as administrator" context menu is global, so it would be for all or none.

However, if you like, you could use the group policy in the tutorial below to specify the UAC behavior for standard users to "Automatically deny elevation requests". This way "Run as administrator" would effectively be useless to them.

I see. Thanks for the link to that other tutorial. I read it, then I realized I had already made that change to prevent standard users from seeing an elevated UAC prompt. So I'm good. My ideal situation would be to remove that eye candy goodness/wickedness from standard users altogether, but at least UAC request will be denied automatically. Thanks for the quick reply. I got what I needed to hear.
