How View Network Data Usage Details in Windows 10

This tutorial will show you how to view the Wi-Fi and Ethernet network data usage details of apps from the last 30 days on your Windows 10 PC.

Microsoft is making some changes to the Data Usage settings page under Settings > Network & Internet — you’ll notice some differences in Windows 10 build 17035.

Starting with Windows 10 build 17643, if your device has a SIM (cellular), Microsoft updated Data Usage Settings to let you know how much data you are using while roaming. The roaming usage info will appear once you start using roaming data

Starting with Windows 10 build 18956, network data usage has now been combined to show on the network status page.

    Contents

    • Option One: View Network Data Usage Overview in Settings
    • Option Two: View Network Data Usage Details per App in Settings

Starting with Windows 10 build 18956, you will need to click/tap on the Status icon on the left side instead.

After some digging i've found that data related to data consumption are stored in
    C:\Windows\System32\sru\Srudb.dat

I have resetted the data in the following way

    - rename sru folder (try few times because Windows is registering data in it...)
    - once renamed cut/paste srudb.dat in a backup folder (if you want to restore it in future..)
    - open notepad and save empty document with name srudb.dat in the folder
    - restore folder name to C:\Windows\System32\sru\

I' have'nt found no problem doing it but if you do it do it at your own risk.

    Hope to have been helpfull

Hello Fla78, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Thank you for the pointer. After playing with it for a bit. I found it easier to boot into Safe Mode (without networking) to be able to easily delete the contents of the sru folder. Afterwards, boot back into normal mode, and data usage is reset.

I'll write up a new tutorial for this today sometime, and will post back with a link to it when ready.

So I had the same issue with my Surface3 that I just bought this weekend. My AT&T cellular connection downloaded my entire dropbox on my first charge which was needless to say a shock.
Build 10565 (and probably earlier - Im in the fast ring) gives you the ability to limit and reset your data usage. It's under settings>network>cellular or >data usage. For instance, I set a maximum of 250 MB for the next five days. I haven't found a way to disable so either for any particular applications like a iPhone can but I'm sure something can be developed at some point.

Definately seems like a vast improvement from the vanilla windows 10 installed when I first bought it (?build 10240 or something)
